The dissertation project is directed toward mathematics in primary and/or secondary school and how students have the opportunity to develop statistical literacy, that is, the ability to read, interpret, and draw conclusions from statistical information in various contexts. This focus can be illuminated from different perspectives, for example, students' own learning and reasoning or teachers' perceptions of statistics and statistics teaching. Which perspective is in the foreground can be adapted based on the PhD project's focus and design. The PhD project includes both deepening theoretical knowledge within the research field and, in close collaboration with the teaching profession, contributing teaching models for statistics instruction. The thesis project focuses on how particular mathematical giftedness in mathematics is addressed in mathematics teacher education. The project could, for example, examine teacher students' perceptions of students with particular mathematical giftedness, possibly in relation to perceptions of students experiencing difficulties. The starting point is the potential conflict between profit interests of commercial actors and public health policy objectives. In The Lancet 2023, a comprehensive framework for Commercial Determinants of Health (CDH) was formulated. Commercial actors are of various types and operate at different levels. CDH refers to the systems, practices, and ways in which commercial actors influence health and equality. Through primarily qualitative research methods, the doctoral student will generate research material and analyze, for example, commercial actors' strategies and lobbying, regulatory processes, and users' experiences. This could involve how commercial strategies and norm shifts have progressively strengthened profit-driven actors' influence over policy, national and international regulation, and knowledge production regarding health-damaging products, and how and why political systems sometimes enable rather than limit this influence. It could also involve how commercial actors circumvent marketing restrictions, for example on social platforms, and how such messages are received by the audience. It is desirable that the project focuses on Swedish conditions, while international perspectives and comparisons are welcomed. Since the research field is relatively new, the doctoral project can advantageously include methodological and theoretical development. This could involve, for example, how commercial determinants can be conceptualized and measured. Comparisons of the significance of determinants and regulation across different substances and products are of interest, as regulation varies within and between countries. Comorbidities during menopause are common, and up to half of postmenopausal women experience urogenital problems and urinary tract symptoms, including incontinence. These common conditions have important consequences for women's social engagement and quality of life. Despite this, women's health and aging remain an underdeveloped area in public health, and inequalities are particularly understudied. The project will contribute to mapping the burden and inequalities among women in Sweden, analyzing existing data, and comparing results from Sweden with data from other countries. Representatives of women and patient groups as well as healthcare providers will contribute to co-creation of knowledge. The project will use quantitative analyses of data from registers and cohort studies as well as qualitative analysis of data collected through stakeholder meetings and focus groups. Expected research results will help identify vulnerable population groups, empower postmenopausal women, inform policymakers, and increase health literacy among the general public. Postdoctoral Fellow in Nitrocellulose Characterization
Job Responsibilities Do you want to build the scientific foundation for Swedish nitrocellulose? We are seeking a postdoctoral fellow for the Svenskt Krut competence center at KTH, where academia, government agencies, and industry work together to strengthen Sweden's capabilities in nitrocellulose (NC). In the project, we are establishing a reliable analytical package for nitrocellulose. Your role is to develop and validate methods for NC's most important properties – including degree of substitution, molecular weight and molecular weight distribution, moisture and residual acid content, as well as stability and energy content – and to manage a comparative measurement study (round-robin) between KTH, FOI, and industry. You will characterize ongoing NC batches for a shared sample bank, build a reference database, and use AI-supported data analysis to compare quality and identify deviations. The work takes place at the Department of Fiber and Polymer Technology and in close collaboration with FOI, with at least one extended work visit there. Qualifications Requirements Completed doctoral degree or foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a doctoral degree. Cities are experiencing increasing heat stress, both through extreme temperature peaks and prolonged heat periods. However, developing such high-resolution maps of air temperature in urban environments remains an unsolved problem. In the project, dense estimation of urban air temperature is treated as an inverse problem, where conditional diffusion models are used to fuse satellite data, forecast data, and crowdsourced station data into probabilistic maps. PhD Student in Remote Fault Attacks on Cryptographic Algorithms
Project Description Research Education Subject: Information and Communication Technology Currently, there are no effective methods to protect implementations of cryptographic algorithms against fault attacks, where an attacker intentionally injects faults into cryptographic computations to extract sensitive information. This project aims to address this important open problem, with particular focus on remote attacks. We intend to study how fault attacks affect the security of cryptographic implementations from both an offensive and defensive perspective. By considering mathematical and electrical engineering problems in a unified context, the project is expected to contribute to the development of cryptographic implementations where resilience to fault attacks is built in at the design stage, rather than handled retroactively when a vulnerability is discovered. Selected candidates are expected to investigate how advanced machine learning techniques can be used to improve both the analysis and mitigation of fault attacks. The insights obtained will be used to develop new methods for vulnerability assessment and design countermeasures against fault attacks, together with supporting tools.
