Project Description Research Education Subject: Computer Science At the Center for Cyber Defense and Information Security (CDIS), KTH, the Swedish Armed Forces, and other government agencies collaborate to strengthen and expand research in cyber defense and cybersecurity. This includes research for protecting critical societal functions and improving the capability to deter actors considering attacks on Sweden. Cyber defense and cybersecurity are subjects whose importance has grown rapidly in society with accelerating digitalization and increasing awareness of the vulnerabilities that digitalization entails. For several years, KTH has been conducting cutting-edge research within the CDIS framework and in close collaboration with the Crypto and IT Security Division at Must (which is part of the Swedish Armed Forces), aimed at addressing challenges arising from quantum computer development. KTH is now seeking a PhD student in cryptology who can contribute to this research. The position will comprise 80% doctoral studies at KTH and 20% placement at Must, where you will have the opportunity to work with some of Sweden's leading cryptologists. The result for the PhD student will be a unique combination of theory and practice in the field of cryptology. Supervision: Johan Håstad and Martin Ekerå are proposed as supervisors for the PhD student. The decision will be made upon admission. Eligibility for Admission To be admitted to doctoral education (Chapter 7, Section 39 of the Higher Education Ordinance), the applicant must have basic eligibility: - completed a degree at advanced level, or - completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at advanced level, or - in some other way within or outside the country acquired essentially equivalent knowledge. For this position, Swedish citizenship is required. (Swedish citizenship is required for this position) The candidate must be able to handle Swedish in both speech and writing, as this is required in daily work. In addition to the above, there is also a mandatory requirement for English corresponding to English B/6. Selection To succeed with your doctoral studies at KTH, you need to be goal-oriented and persistent in your work. Target Degree: Doctor of Philosophy Information about Admission and Employment Only those admitted to doctoral education may be employed as PhD students. The total employment period may not exceed what corresponds to full-time education at the research level for four years. An employed PhD student may, to a limited extent (maximum 20%), perform certain work tasks within, for example, education and administration. A new employment as a PhD student is valid for at most one year; the employment may thereafter be renewed for at most two years at a time. For studies to be completed with a Licentiate degree, the total employment period may not exceed what corresponds to full-time education at the research level for two years.
