The Department of Public Health is a department within the Faculty of Social Sciences with approximately 60 employees. We offer a multidisciplinary and internationally leading research environment. The department has two research centers: the Center for Research on Health Inequalities (CHESS) and the Center for Social Science Research on Alcohol and Drugs (SoRAD). We offer education in public health at bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels. More information about us can be found at: Department of Public Health Project Description The dissertation work will be conducted within the framework of the project "Women's Health and Aging," which aims to investigate the burden, determinants, and consequences of conditions related to aging of the female reproductive system. Comorbidities during menopause are common, and up to half of postmenopausal women experience urogenital problems and urinary tract symptoms, including incontinence. These common conditions have important consequences for women's social engagement and quality of life. Despite this, women's health and aging remain an underdeveloped area in public health, and inequalities are particularly understudied. The project will contribute to mapping the burden and inequalities among women in Sweden, analyzing existing data, and comparing results from Sweden with data from other countries. Representatives of women and patient groups as well as healthcare providers will contribute to co-creation of knowledge. The project will use quantitative analyses of data from registers and cohort studies as well as qualitative analysis of data collected through stakeholder meetings and focus groups. Expected research results will help identify vulnerable population groups, empower postmenopausal women, inform policymakers, and increase health literacy among the general public. Eligibility Requirements To be admitted to doctoral education, applicants must have basic and specific eligibility. The eligibility must be met by the final application deadline. For specific eligibility, it is further required that the candidate has completed coursework in quantitative or qualitative methods relevant to public health science of at least 7.5 higher education credits at the advanced level.
