Researcher in Evolutionary Biology

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is consistently ranked among the world's leading academic institutions. With approximately 46,000 students and 8,500 employees across Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö, we are united in our mission to understand, explain, and improve our world and people's conditions. Subject Description About the research group: Research activities are conducted at the Division of Biodiversity and Evolution at the Department of Biology, Lund University. For more information, see https://portal.research.lu.se/sv/persons/hwei-yen-chen/. We actively work to maintain a work environment characterized by mutual respect and consideration. We strive to offer a stimulating workplace with excellent opportunities for professional development. We continuously work to create conditions that promote job satisfaction and active participation. We place great emphasis on both physical safety and a good psychosocial work environment. Project Description The project aims to investigate host-microorganism interactions in nematodes of the genus Caenorhabditis and their bacterial partners, with particular focus on the molecular mechanisms mediating these interactions. Caenorhabditis nematodes feed on bacteria and have close interactions with microbial communities in their natural environments. A recently published preprint from our research group showed that these interactions may potentially influence the evolutionary trajectories of nematodes. However, this phenomenon does not appear to be universal, at least not within the C. elegans group, but seems to depend on nematode species and possibly also on which bacterial species or strains are involved. The project therefore aims to characterize species-specific interactions between nematodes and their bacterial partners. A particularly interesting aspect of the project is how nematodes and bacteria communicate with each other. Job Responsibilities As a researcher, you will conduct experimental laboratory work and be responsible for the ongoing maintenance of nematode and bacterial cultures within the project. You will play an active role in developing, planning, conducting, and coordinating research tasks. You will be responsible for data and sample collection as well as analysis, interpretation, and communication of research results. Job responsibilities also include managing daily laboratory routines, such as maintaining laboratory records, managing consumable materials, and booking laboratory equipment. You are also expected to actively contribute to the development of relevant scientific publications and national and international research applications. Qualifications Doctoral degree or equivalent research merits in evolutionary biology. Very good ability to communicate scientific research orally and in writing in English. Ability to work independently as well as in collaboration with others. Ability to plan, conduct, and coordinate research projects. Documented experience working with various species of Caenorhabditis nematodes. Documented experience culturing bacteria. Documented experience publishing scientific research in international peer-reviewed journals. Ability to initiate and develop new research questions. Pedagogical competence. Assessment Criteria and Additional Merits Experience with experimental laboratory work in molecular biology. Scientific achievements and distinctions demonstrating scientific excellence. In the assessment, great weight will also be given to good collaboration skills, drive and independence, as well as how the applicant's experiences and competencies complement and strengthen the ongoing research at the department and how the applicant can contribute to its future development. Employment Terms The position is a fixed-term appointment for five months. Planned start date October 1, 2026, or by agreement. The position is a part-time role and work is performed on-site in Lund, Sweden. Type of Employment: Fixed-term contract for 5 months Employment Level: Part-time (80%) Start Date: Preliminary October 1, 2026 - February 28, 2027 Application Instructions Applications must be written in English and compiled in a PDF file containing: A cover letter describing why you are interested in the position and how it matches your qualifications (max 1 page), CV A publication list, Copy of doctoral degree certificate and any other certificates/grades you wish to include. PhD Student in Occupational Health and Safety Engineering: Human-Technology-Organization in Nuclear Power

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is consistently ranked among the world's leading universities. Here, approximately 46,000 students and 8,500 employees work in Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö. We are united in our mission to understand, explain, and improve our world and people's conditions. Description of the Activities The PhD position is affiliated with the Division of Ergonomics and Aerosol Technology, which has approximately 50 employees, of whom 20 are PhD students. The division's research focus is the interaction between humans, technology, and organization (HTO) and what this interaction means for the design of working conditions, technical systems, and organizations. Research with a focus on risk and safety management (HTO - Human Factors) aims to identify and manage risk and safety challenges in both work environments and in larger safety-critical complex systems such as nuclear power and radiation safety. The goal is to gain knowledge that leads to increased system safety and reduced risks, as well as to achieve healthy and efficient environments. Our research is often multidisciplinary and is conducted in close collaboration with industry and authorities. The PhD position is also strongly connected to the new multidisciplinary research environment "Radiation Safety and Society: Building Sweden's Interdisciplinary Capacity for the Future of Nuclear Power," where we are now seeking a skilled and motivated PhD student. Being a PhD Student As a PhD student, you are both admitted as a student and employed by Lund University. As a research student, you are trained in a scientific approach. This can briefly be described as gaining practice in critical and analytical thinking, solving problems independently with the help of appropriate methodology selection, and developing research ethics awareness. Additionally, as a PhD student, you have the opportunity to work on projects, develop your leadership skills, and your pedagogical abilities. Throughout your studies, you are guided by supervisors. Research studies conclude with a dissertation and a doctoral degree. More about being a PhD student at LTH on lth.se. Project Description The recently established research environment "Radiation Safety and Society: Building Sweden's Interdisciplinary Capacity for the Future of Nuclear Power" (https://www.particle-nuclear.lu.se/radiation-safety-and-society-building-swedens-interdisciplinary-capacity-nuclear-futures) - which encompasses various aspects of existing and new nuclear power - brings together researchers from four faculties at Lund University (Natural Sciences, Medicine, Engineering, Social Sciences) as well as expertise in linguistics and discourse analysis from Karlstad University. The research environment constitutes a multidisciplinary community of knowledge and practice around radiation safety and nuclear energy in the fields of physics, occupational health and safety engineering/HTO, medical radiation physics, strategic communication, and Swedish language. We are now recruiting three PhD students in three areas related to safety and societal aspects of nuclear power: 1) environmental impact from existing and new nuclear power; 2) radiation safety and personal radiation protection in existing and new nuclear power (this announcement: occupational health and safety engineering); and 3) communication for inclusion and understanding of radiation and nuclear technology risks. The three PhD students will collaborate during specific phases of their education, which promotes multidisciplinary exchange. Work Tasks You will primarily engage in your research education, which includes participation in research projects as well as research education courses, seminars, and conferences. The work may periodically involve domestic travel for data collection. Radiation protection within nuclear power plays a crucial role in safe working conditions and work environments. However, potentially an overly conservative approach to personal radiation protection could introduce new occupational health and safety risks or safety-related incidents and hinder technical development. The overall purpose of the PhD project is to gain more knowledge about preventive work on radiation safety and personal radiation protection in nuclear technical work environments and suggest development and improvement opportunities. Class Teacher Grades 1–7

Lunds Waldorf School is seeking an engaged and knowledgeable class teacher for grades 1–7 who wants to contribute to students' intellectual, social, and personal development in a vibrant and holistic school environment. The scope of the position and teaching subjects will be adapted to your competence, qualifications, and experience. As a class teacher, you play a central role in the students' daily life and follow the class's development over time. You create structure, security, and continuity while actively working to awaken students' curiosity, independence, and desire to learn. We work based on Waldorf pedagogy's holistic view of learning and the human being, where teaching engages thought, feeling, and will. Through storytelling, practical and creative methods, and interdisciplinary themes, we create instruction where knowledge gains context and depth. About Lunds Waldorf School The school is situated in a nature-rich location in Hardeberga outside Lund and is operated as an ideologically-driven, non-profit foundation. We have approximately 180 students in grades F–9 and about forty staff members. Waldorf pedagogy forms the foundation of our entire operation and characterizes both our teaching and school culture and community. With us, teachers have space for pedagogical freedom, professional responsibility, subject deepening, and long-term relationship building. We value close collegial collaboration and a school environment where creativity, responsibility, and pedagogical development are central. About Instruction in Grades 1–7 Instruction combines Lgr22 with Waldorf pedagogy's developmental perspective and is designed with consideration for students' age, maturity, questions, and developmental needs. An important part of instruction is period teaching, where students have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a subject or theme over connected periods. Teaching can be interdisciplinary and create connections between, for example, language, mathematics, history, geography, natural sciences, and artistic forms of expression. Students work with, among other things, period books where they process and document instruction through text, image, and other forms of expression. This method provides opportunities for both subject-specific deepening and a personal relationship to the content. Instruction develops successively as students grow in age and maturity, from the younger years' storytelling, concrete, and experience-based learning to increasingly independent, analytical, and subject-specific work. At the same time, instruction should be clear, structured, and adapted to students' different needs and circumstances. Job Responsibilities As a class teacher, you will, among other things: Teach multiple subjects based on your competence and qualifications. Plan, implement, and evaluate instruction based on Lgr22 and Waldorf pedagogy's didactic principles. Work with period teaching and thematic and interdisciplinary methods. Create a safe, structured, and inspiring learning environment. Adapt instruction to students' different needs, circumstances, and learning styles. Assess and document students' knowledge development according to applicable national requirements. Follow the class's social and pedagogical development. Stimulate students' curiosity, creativity, independence, and collaboration skills. Collaborate with colleagues, student support services, and guardians. Actively contribute to the school's shared pedagogical development, traditions, and operations. Qualifications We are seeking someone who meets several of the following qualifications: Waldorf teacher training or training in progress, or alternatively a clear interest in further education in Waldorf pedagogy. State teacher training for primary school with relevant qualifications. Subject and didactic competence through education and/or relevant work experience. Experience teaching in primary school. Experience working with students with different pedagogical needs, including students with neurodevelopmental differences, and knowledge of adapted methods. A genuine commitment to children's and young people's development and learning. For us, the right person in the right place is very important. We therefore look at the whole picture and value not only formal qualifications, but also pedagogical maturity, collaboration skills, and the ability to create security and engagement in the classroom. Experience with Waldorf pedagogy is advantageous, but what matters most is that you are curious about the pedagogy and want to develop together with the school. Personal Qualities We are seeking someone who: Teaches with presence, structure, and engagement. Has confident, clear, and inclusive leadership. Is responsible, solution-oriented, and has good organizational skills. Is responsive to students' different needs and circumstances. Has a reflective and curious approach to teaching and learning.
