Common tasks include manufacturing and repairing cables such as BNC, DSUB, SMA, LEMO, etc. The work also includes repairing electronic equipment through troubleshooting and component replacement. You will build electronics either on lab benches placed in aluminum enclosures or develop specifications so the team can create a PCB, or design the PCB yourself. In the laboratory, you will primarily work with small and noise-sensitive signals, but also with high voltages and currents. A large portion of the electronics has embedded systems, so experience programming and configuring Raspberry Pi or Arduino, microprocessors such as ESP32, or other devices that can be connected via ethernet or wlan is valuable. Some electronics have fast signals that need to be examined with an oscilloscope/signal generator/spectrum analyzer. Knowledge of noise and how to build highly stable power supplies is therefore advantageous for the position. Service to researchers is an important part of the work. Repairs often need to be performed on short notice so experiments can continue without unnecessary interruptions, even in situations where documentation or manuals are lacking. The role also requires the ability to translate needs into technical solutions. The researchers who need support do not always have deep knowledge of electronics and may therefore have difficulty formulating a complete specification. It will be your task to figure out what they actually want instead of building what they ask for. The division is a central part of NanoLund, Lund University's major interdisciplinary research center for nanoscience and nanotechnology. The division also operates Lund Nano Lab, a central and shared facility for fabrication of materials and components at the nanoscale. The division is also strongly committed to undergraduate education, particularly within the civil engineering program "Technical Nanoscience" at LTH. You will join a research group conducting experimental research in topological quantum electronics. Project Description This PhD project focuses on DC characterization and investigation at microwave frequencies of anyonic excitations in graphene-based quantum components. The PhD student will fabricate ultra-high-quality van der Waals heterostructures at Lund Nano Lab and study them using electronic measurements and microwave measurements at low temperatures. The PhD student will also contribute to establishing a new experimental laboratory, including infrastructure for van der Waals component fabrication and installation of a dilution refrigerator reaching temperatures below 10 mK, equipped with a 14 T magnet and connections for both DC and radiofrequency measurements. The position provides extensive practical experience in nanofabrication, cryogenic measurement techniques, microwave electronics, data analysis, and quantum component physics. The PhD student will be an important part of a collaborative research team and will collaborate with research groups at Lund University and leading international institutions. The project combines fundamental quantum physics with a technology-oriented approach to develop new types of nanoelectronic and quantum components. Responsibilities You will primarily dedicate yourself to your doctoral research, which includes participation in research projects, doctoral courses, seminars, and conferences. The goal of the doctoral project is to build anyon arrays and use them as qubits. You will work both independently and in close collaboration with other partners in the project.
