We are looking for you to contribute to an organization dedicated to monitoring and ensuring that human rights are respected and realized in Sweden. At the Institute for Human Rights, you will participate in developing an independent institute with a mandate to strengthen compliance with human rights and serve as an independent national mechanism according to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. About the Institute for Human Rights We defend and advocate for Sweden to respect, protect, and promote human rights. Our vision is a society where every person enjoys their human rights. The Institute for Human Rights is in a development phase. We started in 2022 and will operate in accordance with the Paris Principles, which are the international standard for national human rights institutions. Our work is led by a board with a director responsible for operations at the office located in Lund. The organization consists of three units, and you will be placed in the research and analysis unit. About the Research Officer role As a research officer, your work will include monitoring, investigating, and reporting on the development of human rights in Sweden within various areas, as well as following national and international legal developments relevant to human rights. You will prepare memoranda and materials for reports and other documents within the institute's operations, and give presentations to management. The work also includes managing projects on behalf of the institute. Your work will be characterized by continuous and close dialogue with colleagues, other authorities and organizations, and rights holders. Being collaborative, able to work with diverse tasks, and functioning in a changing environment are essential to thriving with us. Qualifications To be a suitable candidate for this role, we want you to: have a relevant degree in law or social sciences have broad and good knowledge as well as several years of current experience working with human rights issues have solid experience conducting investigations and writing reports have experience working to increase knowledge about human rights have good knowledge of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities have broad and good knowledge of the international provisions on human rights that Sweden is bound by, such as the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, and UN and Council of Europe conventions on human rights express yourself very well in Swedish and English It is a merit if you also: have education in human rights have experience implementing the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in the Swedish context have experience in and/or knowledge of public administration have experience working in or with civil society organizations have in-depth knowledge of legal issues and regulations concerning disability rights in a Swedish context have knowledge of methods and practices for translating human rights into practice and a rights-based approach have good knowledge of the international human rights system have knowledge of one or more of the national minority languages, Swedish sign language, and/or one or more other languages spoken by many in Sweden Competencies We are looking for people with a solution-oriented approach who treat colleagues, rights holders, and other stakeholders professionally and with respect. It is necessary to be able to take personal responsibility for driving work forward within the scope of the assignment and to show good judgment through the ability to determine what may need to be coordinated and anchored. Furthermore, the work requires the ability to quickly learn new areas, work with various tasks, and reprioritize based on a given situation. Collaborating well internally and externally to solve tasks and enjoying creating and maintaining new contacts is a prerequisite for success in this role. Other Information Permanent employment with start as soon as possible or by agreement. Probation applies. Travel within the scope of employment may occur. Part of the work can be performed remotely.
