Coordinator for Sami Project, Library Development, Västerbotten
Region Västerbotten works to ensure that good health and sustainable development strengthen each other. Library Development Västerbotten works to promote development, collaboration, and quality in the region's public library activities and to strengthen libraries' role as a force for democracy, participation, and diversity. Since March 2026, together with Region Norrbotten, Region Västernorrland, Region Jämtland Härjedalen, and Region Dalarna, we have been running the inter-regional book start project Miessie. The project is funded by the Swedish Arts Council and aims to strengthen the Sami language of the youngest children in everyday life and activities through collaboration. The project contributes to promoting language development and reading among young children in the Swedish part of Sápmi. The Faculty of Humanities at Umeå University is announcing two positions as Assistant University Lecturer, offering researchers the opportunity to develop long-term research activities over six years and qualify for promotion to University Lecturer. The vacancy is open across all subjects at the Faculty of Humanities where scientific research is conducted. Of the two positions, at most one may be assigned to the same subject area at the faculty. Main Responsibilities The purpose of the position is to provide the appointee with the opportunity to develop independence as a researcher and to qualify both scientifically and pedagogically to meet the requirements for promotion to University Lecturer. The duties include actively contributing to the development of the research environment within your research area and seeking external research funding for your research activities and research environment. Teaching at undergraduate and advanced levels, as well as supervision of doctoral students, is also included. Beyond teaching and research, the position includes teaching-related administration as well as personnel, subject, and planning meetings. The appointment is time-limited to six years on a full-time basis and consists of at least 70% independent research and at least 20% pedagogical qualification. Applicants who do not speak Swedish at the time of employment are expected to learn Swedish within six years from the first day of employment. Eligibility Requirements for Appointment as Assistant University Lecturer Eligible for appointment as Assistant University Lecturer is someone who has completed a doctoral degree within a research field relevant to the Faculty of Humanities or who possesses equivalent scientific competence. Primarily, candidates should have completed a doctoral degree or achieved equivalent competence no more than seven years before the application deadline for the Assistant University Lecturer position. However, those who completed a doctoral degree or achieved equivalent competence earlier may also be considered if there are special circumstances. Special circumstances refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, or other similar conditions, Chapter 4, Section 4a of the Higher Education Ordinance. Very good knowledge of English, both spoken and written, is a requirement for the position.
