Description University Services is Umeå University's service organization that simplifies daily life on campus for employees, students, and visitors. We do this by providing service and support, managing bookable teaching spaces and meeting rooms, facilities management, package and goods handling, access cards/UmU cards, mail handling, telephony, and exam administration. At Exam Services, exams are administered both on paper and digitally. Digital exam sessions are conducted at Umeå University using a cloud service. Currently, 50% of all exams are administered digitally. For digital exams, the proctor's work involves starting the exam, monitoring and overseeing the ongoing exam, and managing students' digital submissions in the system. As a proctor, you are therefore expected to have very strong computer skills and to regularly use, understand, and have proficiency with both PC and Mac. You need to be comfortable working in different computer systems and be able to quickly learn new technologies and programs and integrate them into your work. At Umeå University, work is primarily conducted in a Windows environment. During digital exam sessions, you as a proctor are also responsible for providing basic IT support to students at startup, mainly assisting with connections to the wireless network and troubleshooting simple issues in the process. Job Duties The proctor position involves, among other things: Primary responsibility for the exam room. Maintain contact with departments as needed and provide support to exam monitors in the room. Manage exams and provide targeted student support as needed Prepare the room before the exam. Color-code exams, brief monitors, and distribute tasks before the exam begins. Receive and check in registered exam participants (students) Provide information in Swedish and English to exam participants in large groups Distribute exams and any permitted materials For paper-based exams: Distribute, monitor, and collect exams - Package, transport, and submit exams For digital exams: Start up the exam, monitor and oversee the ongoing exam, and manage students' digital submissions - Operate various programs and systems required to conduct the exam - Assist students in resetting passwords for Umu-id - Help with connections to the wireless network - Handle basic troubleshooting on both Windows and Mac. Responsible for restoring the room to its original condition. This includes emptying trash cans, wiping down tables, etc. Responsible for ensuring all exams are properly packaged and placed in boxes after the exam concludes. Work with targeted pedagogical support: - Administer exams for students with accommodations during examinations, such as extended writing time, and manage exam administration at the end of the day. The position also includes Saturday responsibility during exam sessions when the office is unstaffed. Independent work will occur. The Department of Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics is announcing a fully funded PhD position in mathematics with a focus on combinatorics, group theory, and geometry. We will investigate questions about rigidity and motion in non-classical geometries using combinatorial, algebraic, and group-theoretic methods, inspired by the mathematical theory of articulated systems and constraint geometry. Possible tools include combinatorics, algebraic methods, incidence geometry, matroid theory, geometric group theory, and rigidity theory, depending on the selected PhD student's background and interests.
