Skilled Music Teacher 50%, Temporary Position, at a Unique Family-Oriented School in the City
Föreningen Hillel is an organization located centrally on Östermalm that has existed since the mid-1950s. The organization operates a Jewish school, as well as a preschool and after-school program. In total, the activities serve over 400 children and have over 70 employees. We are a small, family-oriented school with a Jewish profile, from preschool class through grade 6. The school currently has over 275 students. We moved ten years ago into completely new and adapted facilities in the heart of Östermalm with a schoolyard on the school's roof offering views over Stockholm's rooftops. Here you will find a closeness between parents, colleagues, and management that is a bit beyond the ordinary. In our most recent employee survey, the numbers show that we are an attractive workplace, which we are proud of. The principal has overall responsibility for all of Hillel and, together with the management team, is responsible for different parts of the organization. One of the assistant principals is responsible for middle grades and subject instruction and will be your immediate supervisor. With our small classes of approximately 20-25 students per class, students have the opportunity for community and security, which students also report experiencing in student health surveys. The school has a strong student support team consisting of two special education teachers, a special education specialist, a school counselor, and a school nurse on site. We are now seeking a certified music teacher at 50% who can teach music to students in lower and middle grades. If you are certified in one or more other subjects, that is a merit; our primary need is in Swedish, possibly in combination with Swedish as a second language. The main position is as a music teacher. The employment percentage will vary depending on your qualifications and competence. As a music teacher with us, you will be part of a team consisting of a competent group of all subject teachers at the school. You will share music instruction with our music teacher who has worked with us for several years. Instruction takes place in our music room where you teach half-classes. At the end of each term, we organize larger concerts with all students at the school that are usually well-attended by families, relatives, and friends of the students. Music instruction typically takes place in several different languages, with Hebrew being an important language for our students—a subject they also receive instruction in through our Jewish profile. You do not need to have knowledge of Hebrew to work with us, but you should be curious about learning more! As a teacher, you should have a professional and relational approach to students, colleagues, and parents, with the students' best interests in focus. You should be able to create a structure that is clear but allows flexibility for students' different needs. You should be willing to collaborate with our other music teacher as well as with your closest colleagues in your team, while also seeing opportunities for other collaborations at the school. You are welcome to want to be part of our concerts and contribute to developing work with cultural elements at our school together with students and staff. Further, we see that you are open to learning more about Jewish culture and that you are curious about the Jewish traditions that are part of the school's profile. Our school serves kosher vegetarian food and fish prepared from scratch, and pedagogical meals are part of the position. We see soft values as important for our staff and want to take care of our employees through frequent staff breaks, multiple opportunities for socializing, celebrations, breakfasts, and after-work activities. We also organize planning days together with all staff in various formats. We handle our recruitment process in-house, without involvement from recruitment firms. If you are the right fit for us, we will recruit you without waiting until the application deadline. We look forward to hearing from you and meeting with you, both digitally and in person.
