Coordinator for the New Future Focus Initiative

Postdoctoral Position in Pediatrics at BKV

Your Tasks The research will primarily be based on the ABIS study (All Babies in Southeast Sweden; www.abis-studien.se), a birth cohort of 17,000 individuals born between October 1, 1997, and October 1, 1999, who have been followed up with regular surveys and biological samples (a new follow-up is currently underway). Several national registers are linked to the study, such as the Swedish National Patient Register and the National Drug Register. ABIS was founded by and is still led by Johnny Ludvigsson, senior professor of pediatrics and research group leader. The ABIS study has so far resulted in more than 150 scientific publications, and 15 doctoral dissertations are based on ABIS. The main research areas have so far been studies of the development of type 1 diabetes, but also studies of celiac disease, JIA, IBD, autism, obesity, allergies, and recently also psoriasis. You will participate in biostatistical/epidemiological research on the etiology behind type 1 diabetes and other immune-mediated diseases. Epigenetic studies will continue, as will studies of protein and metabolomic patterns in relation to epigenetic patterns and beta cell function in the pancreas. In addition to ABIS, you will also be involved in the EU project INITIALISE, which aims to clarify how exposures and genetics affect the gut microbiome, immune system, and metabolism, and how the interplay between these factors affects health throughout life, particularly immune-mediated diseases, behavior-related and metabolic outcomes. As a postdoctoral fellow, you will primarily conduct research. Teaching may also be part of your duties, but no more than one-fifth of your working time. Your Qualifications To be eligible for employment as a postdoctoral fellow, you must have completed a doctorate or hold a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a doctorate. Your degree must be completed by the time the employment decision is made. It is meritorious if your degree was completed no more than three years before the final application deadline for this position. If there are special circumstances, it may be considered if the doctorate was completed earlier, for example due to various types of statutory leaves. We are looking for you with special expertise in epigenetics, methylation analyses, Olink proteomics, and shotgun proteomics. You should have knowledge and experience using both R and Linux-based pipelines and be proficient in bioinformatics and data analysis. You should have competence in the extraction, profiling, quantification, and analysis of circulating and exosomal miRNA biomarkers. We also welcome experience in writing scientific articles. A strong publication record is meritorious, and it is also meritorious if you have knowledge of ABIS—and ideally have worked on the development of type 1 diabetes and other autoimmune diseases.
