DevOps / Service Developer at Sweden AI Factory, NAISS
Linköpings Universitet · Full-time
Linköping, Sweden
NAISS, the National Academic Infrastructure for Supercomputing in Sweden, provides large-scale computing resources, storage, and data services for academic users. NAISS is a center-based organization hosted by Linköping University and has 12 partner universities throughout Sweden. Would you like to work at the forefront of Europe's AI development and help build the next generation of AI infrastructure? We are now seeking up to 4 DevOps / Service Developers who want to build and operate the services that help Sweden and Europe advance AI development across a range of areas including life sciences, materials science, autonomous systems, general engineering and tools, and other emerging application areas. The services offer a unique opportunity to work together with researchers, companies, public organizations, and AI specialists within the EuroHPC AI Factory initiative, and to make it easy for users to access data and AI solutions while ensuring compliance with laws and regulations. About the job As a DevOps / Service Developer, you will deploy and operate world-leading AI and data services, and help users and projects apply AI methods, tools, and workflows to real-world challenges. Depending on your background and interests, you can contribute within one or more application areas. Your responsibilities We are a small team and everyone is expected to contribute where needed according to their abilities. It is very possible that you can "own" an area and become the primary decision-maker/responsible for it, but you must also be able to document and explain it to your colleagues. We follow a standard development cycle and code review is an important part of the work. We work extensively with scripting and infrastructure-as-code, and you must be able to think like a programmer and consider things like algorithmic complexity. It is also common to need to dig into the source code of various tools to figure out what is going wrong, so being able to read and understand code is important. When we need to build services, we choose modern, maintainable languages that help us avoid mistakes. We do not primarily develop new software; instead, we prefer to combine existing solutions as much as possible. As part of the recruitment process, you will be asked to demonstrate your capabilities practically. You should also be prepared to discuss code in some form in a potential interview. Some of the technologies we work with are virtualization, containerization and orchestration, block, object, and file storage, relays, configuration management, scripting, continuous integration, and infrastructure-as-code. We don't expect you to have worked with all of these, but you should have a solid foundation in Unix/Linux and some knowledge of different forms of networking and security. About you We are looking for someone who has: - A Master's degree in AI, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field. - Demonstrable practical experience with service development, Linux DevOps, and developing and operating services for sensitive data, for example in highly regulated areas such as finance or healthcare. - The ability to apply technical knowledge to real-world problems. - Experience from research, industry, public sector, or innovation projects. - The ability to work in interdisciplinary and collaborative environments. - The ability to write and maintain system documentation. - Good communication skills in English and the ability to collaborate with different stakeholders. It is beneficial to have one or more of the following: - Experience with FOSS, technologies such as Linux, OpenShift Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, continuous deployment and integration (CI/CD), and experience with agile working methods. - Experience with HPC, cloud-based environments, data platforms, or scientific computing environments. - Experience in one or more relevant areas such as life sciences, materials science, autonomous systems, AI in the public sector, or industrial AI. - Experience developing training materials, providing user support, or working on collaborative projects. - Experience with European research infrastructures, EuroHPC, or international collaborations. - Interest in AI technologies and their practical applications. - Good knowledge of Swedish. Your workplace You will work at https://swedenaifactory.se/ which is part of a European initiative to strengthen the development of trustworthy and competitive AI in research, industry, and the public sector. Through advanced supercomputing infrastructure, expert support, and international collaboration, we enable the development of AI solutions for research, business, and public administration.
