Chief Physician, Otolaryngology (ENT)
Visby Hospital has a broad healthcare mission and provides Gotland with both acute and planned specialist care. The island location requires the resources of a large hospital while simultaneously offering the proximity and sense of community of a smaller hospital. A large number of services are represented within both surgical and medical specialties. The ENT department is responsible for ear, nose, and throat care for Gotland's approximately 60,000 residents and handles around 7,000 visits per year. The department operates in close collaboration with other surgical specialties, the dermatology clinic, and the Oral and Maxillofacial Center. We strive to maintain as much ENT care as possible at Visby Hospital. We have an established collaboration with Stockholm and receive recurring consulting physicians in tumor surgery, otologic surgery, plastic surgery, audiology, and phoniatrics from there. Patients requiring highly specialized care are primarily referred to Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm. The ENT department has six chief physician positions and is currently undergoing a generational transition. Today we are a young team with three chief physicians, two specialist physicians, and two resident physicians, along with several recurring locum physicians who relieve our on-call burden and share inspiration and knowledge. The department has an open culture and is characterized by good collaboration, strong commitment, and humility. Are you interested in changing environments and trying something new? Working together with a young, cohesive, and courageous team? Taking a break from the daily grind and trading overtime for extra time off? Then this is a position for you! Your responsibilities Since on-call duty is our single most important function, it is important that you have experience from 24/7 healthcare, experience with on-call work during the past five years, and can directly join the on-call rotation. If you have a subspecialization, there is room to work with and develop it. In addition to standard acute and planned outpatient care, we have 1.5 days of operating time per week and two days with operations at the clinic, primarily for skin tumors. The ENT on-call service has home-based on-call duty (on-call level A), and the hospital's medical/surgical residents serve as primary on-call physicians during on-call shifts. Who are you? Swedish medical license and specialist competence in ENT are required. We are looking for you with interest and commitment to developing the department. You have solid experience with basic surgical procedures in ENT and are positive toward development, training, and mentoring of resident physicians in your specialty and related general practitioners. Good collaboration skills with other professions and specialties are highly valued, and we place great emphasis on personal suitability. Due to an upcoming retirement, we offer a permanent position. There is great potential for flexibility, and part-time solutions are also of interest. Research opportunities can be discussed and are connected to collaboration with a regional clinic. Background checks will be conducted through criminal record extracts prior to employment decisions. Why choose Region Gotland? We are the island's largest employer – with over 200 different professions and 7,000 employees in Sweden's only combined regional and municipal authority.
