Postdoctoral Researcher in Translational Lymphoma Research

Description of the Workplace This position is located at the Department of Immune Technology at Medicon Village in Lund and is part of CREATE Health and Lund University's Cancer Center. The Department of Immune Technology conducts research spanning from advanced technology development to biomedical studies. The main research areas include immunosensitization, immuno-oncology, and biomarkers. The modern facilities are located at Medicon Village, where academic research is conducted alongside private companies and actors in the healthcare sector. Several important infrastructures are available, including specialized laboratories for antibody development, flow cytometry, spatial omics, and mass spectrometry, as well as NBIS (National Bioinformatics Infrastructure Sweden). The department is also responsible for several student courses and offers high-quality education at undergraduate and advanced levels. Approximately 40 people work at the department. You will be part of a research group conducting translational lymphoma research with a focus on understanding tumor biology and the tumor microenvironment in lymphoid malignancies. Specific Subject Description The research focus of this position is in translational lymphoma research, with particular emphasis on cutaneous T-cell lymphomas and high-grade B-cell lymphomas. The research group conducts experimental and translational studies using clinically well-characterized patient material in close collaboration with clinical researchers. The research aims to improve the biological understanding of lymphomas by characterizing tumor cells, immune cells, and their spatial organization in the tumor microenvironment. We use spatial transcriptomics and spatial proteomics, advanced image analysis, and computational methods to study molecular and cellular heterogeneity and integrate spatial molecular information with histopathological and clinical data. We are now seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher with expertise in spatial omics, image analysis, and computational analysis of complex biological data. The specific subject description is decisive in the selection. Duties The postdoctoral researcher's duties primarily involve conducting research. Teaching may also be included in the duties, however, no more than one-fifth of working time. The position includes the opportunity for three weeks of university pedagogical training. The purpose of the employment is to develop independence as a researcher and create conditions for further professional advancement. The research task comprises a combination of experimental work, data analysis, and interpretation and presentation of research results. The majority of the work in this position concerns translational studies of cutaneous T-cell lymphomas and high-grade B-cell lymphomas. The research will focus on spatial transcriptomic and spatial proteomic analysis of patient-derived tissue, quantitative image analysis, and integration of molecular, spatial, histopathological, and clinical data. Computational and statistical analyses will primarily be conducted in R. The research is conducted in a multidisciplinary environment and in collaboration with clinical researchers and other relevant partners. Postdoctoral Researcher, Leukemic Cell Quiescence and Treatment Resistance

In B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) in children, a subpopulation of leukemic cells survives chemotherapy by entering a quiescent state. These cells are believed to contribute to minimal residual disease and subsequently cause relapse. The research group investigates the mechanisms underlying this process using a bone marrow organoid model based on human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), which are transplanted with primary ALL cells. The model enables studies of the interaction between leukemic cells and the bone marrow microenvironment that governs the transition to quiescence. This research platform is combined with an expressed barcode system that enables simultaneous tracking of cell lineage, cell state, and cell cycle dynamics at the single-cell level. The project is conducted in collaboration with UCL Cancer Institute, where Professor Tariq Enver holds his primary position. Specific Subject Description This project focuses on the development of GPU-accelerated, high-resolution simulation models for thermal runaway in lithium-ion battery cells, modules, battery packs, and complete battery systems. Thermal runaway is a chain reaction that leads to an uncontrolled release of the energy stored in a battery cell, which can result in fires and other dangerous events that are difficult to contain. As battery systems become larger and more complex, there is an increased need for computationally efficient predictive tools that can describe the underlying physical and chemical processes across multiple scales. The project will be conducted in collaboration with Scania Industrial Battery Systems and partners within COMPEL. The main objective of the postdoctoral project is to develop next-generation GPU-based simulation methodology in OpenFOAM to predict the initiation and propagation of thermal runaway at the cell and module level. Special emphasis will be placed on leveraging modern heterogeneous computing architectures to enable large-scale, high-resolution simulations of reactive flows. The models developed at the cell level will subsequently be coupled to simulations at the module, pack, and system level to improve the ability to predict how thermal runaway propagates in practical battery systems. About the Workplace The Neurodegenerative Diseases Research Group focuses on defining and understanding the biological processes involved in Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative diseases. We analyze large datasets collected from patients and cognitively healthy volunteers who undergo extensive examinations including neuroimaging, biomarker measurements, and neuropsychological tests. Our group applies advanced statistical methods to these unique and state-of-the-art datasets to model processes related to aging and disease. The Project Assistant will join a growing multidisciplinary team of neuroscientists, statisticians, biologists, and engineers dedicated to advancing our understanding of neurodegenerative diseases. The long-term goal of our research is to contribute to the development of new treatments for neurodegenerative diseases where effective therapies are currently lacking. Duties and Responsibilities Recent research has shown that plasma-based proteomics can be used to simultaneously quantify the health of various organs and body systems, including the brain, in living people. Our research group is investigating how effective these methods are for understanding systemic changes in neurodegenerative diseases. The Project Assistant will primarily focus on processing and analyzing large-scale proteomics datasets. The Project Assistant will develop workflows and run existing omics and machine learning-based pipelines to process and post-process these data. The Project Assistant will be encouraged and given the opportunity to lead an independent project analyzing proteomics data in relation to aging and Alzheimer's disease. The department is a central part of NanoLund, which is Lund University's major interdisciplinary research center for nanoscience and nanotechnology. This position is part of a research group consisting of three doctoral students with individual projects where collaboration fosters good group development. Specific Subject Description The ZEUS project focuses on promoting the development of innovative and radiation-resistant nanowire solar cells with high efficiency. While current space-tested nanowire solar cells offer approximately 15% efficiency with single bandgap cells, ZEUS aims to significantly improve this efficiency potentially up to 47% by using triple junction nanowire cells using III-V semiconductor materials. For this purpose, this interdisciplinary project will also optimize nanowire surface passivation to improve voltage and current matching. The project aims to achieve scalability by transferring nanowire solar cells to light, flexible substrates. Key objectives include: Increase the efficiency of radiation-resistant nanowire solar cells. Scale up the substrate size to 100 mm² and develop modules with a size of 1x1 cm². Reduced weight and material usage through nanowire scaling and substrate reuse. Job Responsibilities As a postdoctoral researcher, your main responsibilities include conducting research. Teaching may also be included in your duties, however, no more than one-fifth of your working time. Within the scope of the position, there is an opportunity for three weeks of higher education pedagogy training. The purpose of the position is to develop your independence as a researcher and create conditions for further professional development. You will work on the synthesis of nanowires and process them into solar cells for space applications. Characterization of the nanowires and evaluation of these in terms of external quantum efficiency (EQE) and current-voltage characterization (IV) will be part of the project.
