We are now seeking a highly motivated person for a doctoral student position who will work within the Node with a focus on the pest insect bean bruchid in faba beans. Attacks by bean bruchids currently present an obstacle to developing cultivation and markets for faba beans for human consumption. As part of doctoral education, both research studies and courses are included. The main work tasks within the research studies will be: Map the insect's life cycle in the field and storage Develop methodology for screening bean bruchid damage in a large panel of plant breeding material Contribute to the development of DNA markers for tolerance and resistance to bean bruchids for future application in plant breeding You will collaborate within the project with other doctoral students and senior researchers in plant breeding, plant cultivation, entomology, virology, and genetics as well as with industry and other stakeholders, primarily Lantmännen and NordGen.
