ICU Nurse Wanted – Building the Future of Intensive Care at Östra Hospital

About Us At the Intensive Care Unit and Postoperative Care Ward East (ICU/PostOp), we care for critically ill patients requiring advanced treatment and careful monitoring due to vital organ failure, severe sepsis, post-cardiac arrest care, respiratory failure, and other serious and/or life-threatening conditions. The patient population is unique in its variety and reflects the different clinical areas at Östra Hospital: Surgery, which conducts advanced abdominal surgery with several national assignments; Infectious Diseases including Tropical Medicine; Medicine; Psychiatry; Scandinavia's largest maternity unit; and the Hyperbaric Chamber, which provides 24-hour standby for hyperbaric medical treatment. We also provide advanced postoperative care with several different patient groups, including those from surgery and women's health. The Intensive Care Unit currently has eight ICU beds and approximately 120 employees. Our new facilities are expected to be completed in 2028 and will expand operations to an intensive care unit with 14 beds. Additionally, a new hyperbaric chamber will be built adjacent to the unit. About Us Clinical Genetics and Genomics at Sahlgrenska University Hospital (SU) has approximately 170 employees and is responsible for genetic analyses within laboratory medicine. In addition, samples are analyzed for research assignments in close collaboration with Sahlgrenska Academy (SA)/University of Gothenburg (GU). The operations are accredited according to ISO 15189:2022. Center for Medical Genomics (CMG), as part of the operations, performs all genetic diagnostics for acquired and hereditary cancer, fetal diagnostics, and rare diseases, and is characterized by change management and development. The Unit for Genetic Analysis and Bioinformatics (GAB) is part of the center structure and has over 30 employees. There is close collaboration within the management group and between unit managers as they jointly manage CMG's assignments. The Work As unit manager for GAB, you work in a shared leadership role. You report directly to the operations manager for Clinical Genetics and Genomics and are part of the operations management. In this role, you actively contribute to the achievement and development of the operations. You are responsible for leading, planning, and developing the unit and employees based on the assignment and given organizational and economic frameworks. The assignment also includes driving and supporting strategic choices within methods, technology, and bioinformatics. Initially, the position entails shared leadership with the existing manager, who is also center director for CMG. In the long term, the unit will be divided, and planning this change will be part of the assignment, meaning the role will gradually become more independent. The position is a five-year management assignment with permanent employment in your base profession. The position offers the opportunity for your own research within a relevant subject area. The role includes developing employee roles within the matrix structure that GAB represents within the center structure. GAB employees work with interpretation and development across all technical areas. Rapid development requires investments in infrastructure and competence, and working methods are continually evolving, for example, the transition to Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) used in our analyses within clinical pathology, clinical genetics, clinical microbiology, clinical immunology and transfusion medicine, and clinical chemistry. Drive continuous improvement of testing methodologies, automation processes, and telemetry/reporting infrastructure. Qualifications Required Bachelor's or Master's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
