Assistant Professor in Archaeology

The Department of Archaeology, Ancient History and Conservation, Uppsala University, is seeking an Assistant Professor in Archaeology with placement at Campus Gotland in Visby. The position involves being part of a dynamic and expanding research environment with close to one hundred employees in both Visby and Uppsala. The combined departmental environment includes seven main subject areas with teaching at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels: Ancient Culture and Society, Archaeology, Assyriology, Egyptology, Conservation, Osteology, and Global Environmental History. The Department's activities at Campus Gotland are in an expansive phase and currently include about thirty employees working in conservation, archaeology, and osteology. We wish to further strengthen the environment by recruiting an Assistant Professor in Archaeology. The Department of Molecular Sciences, SLU Uppsala, is seeking a University Lecturer (Senior Lecturer) in Food Biotechnology. The Department currently has approximately 90 employees and, together with three other departments, forms an inspiring research environment at the Biocentrum on Ultuna Campus, Uppsala. The Department encompasses several collaborative areas including food science, biotechnology, microbiology, inorganic, physical and organic chemistry, biochemistry, molecular structural biology, and natural products chemistry. Research focuses on applied and fundamental biological and chemical processes. The Department also collaborates with industrial partners on the development of innovations important for the transition toward a sustainable society. The Food Biotechnology research area conducts research and education in sustainable food and feed production, circular economy, and fundamental physiology and genetics of microorganisms, as a basis for establishing new biotechnological processes for food and other biochemicals. The Department's research in this field encompasses both traditional fermented foods and the introduction of novel raw materials into the food chain. Methods used include applied microbiology, advanced microbial physiology, fermentation technology, and downstream processing of microbial biomass, with a focus (though not exclusively) on yeast, other microorganisms and microbial consortia. The National Centre for Knowledge on Men's Violence Against Women (NCK) at Uppsala University and Academic Hospital is a national knowledge center on men's violence against women and intimate partner violence, honor-related violence and oppression, sexual violence, and prostitution and human trafficking. NCK also provides support to victims of violence. Education is one of the cornerstones of NCK's activities. Men's violence against women and intimate partner violence is an independent interdisciplinary knowledge area. This field is now part of higher education programs within several disciplines. Knowledge about violence and its consequences is important in order to provide good care and adequate support to those who have been subjected to violence and their children. As a new inspector, you will receive thorough introduction to inspection work tailored to your previous experience, and after certification you will participate in and lead inspections. With more inspection experience, national inspections will alternate with international inspection assignments for, among others, the EMA (European Medicines Agency). You should largely meet the formal requirements for a qualified person (QP) according to HSLF-FS 2021:102. Admission to doctoral studies in the subject of technical physics with a focus on nanotechnology and functional materials. at the Department of Nanotechnology and Functional Materials, Department of Materials Science, Uppsala University The Department of Materials Science aims to be an environment for successful and valuable research and education focused on materials science solutions for important societal challenges. The Department of Nanotechnology and Functional Materials is part of the Department of Materials Science at the Ångström Laboratory. Project Description Our research group specializes in the development of porous materials for applications such as gas separation (particularly greenhouse gases), water purification, catalysis, and drug delivery. We have strong expertise in the synthesis and optimization of a broad spectrum of porous materials, including porous oxides, zeolites, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), etc. This project focuses primarily on environmental applications of porous materials, such as MOFs. Specific application areas include adsorption and catalytic degradation of pollutants, particularly PFAS and greenhouse gases. The project mainly encompasses the synthesis, characterization, and optimization of both existing and new MOFs. Job Responsibilities The main responsibility of a doctoral student is to pursue their doctoral studies, which includes participation in research projects and doctoral training courses. The duties may also include participation in teaching and other departmental work, however, no more than 20% of working time. Being a doctoral student means independently conducting projects within a specific doctoral research field. When you are admitted to doctoral studies, you will be offered employment as a doctoral student. Employment as a doctoral student at Uppsala University corresponds to full-time education at the research level for four years. The job responsibilities include: Synthesis and characterization (e.g., X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy, electron microscopy, and gas adsorption) of porous materials.
