Ett av arméstabens fokusområden är att bygga den nya armén. En armé som har fokus på arméns förmåga i fält och i detta bygga nya såväl som omstrukturera befintliga förband. Parallellt leder arméstaben förband såväl nationellt som internationellt. Arméstaben utvecklar och produktionsleder i armén ingående krigsförband samt underställda organisationsenheter som utgörs av förband och skolor. Om enheten Arméstaben är en egen organisationsenhet inom Försvarsmakten där Teknik- och Vidmakthållandekontor Mark (TVK Mark) ingår som en avdelning i Rustningsenheten. TVK Mark ansvarar för materielunderhåll, materielnyttjande och materielunderhållsekonomi avseende Försvarsmaktens markmateriel, samt att säkerställa att materielen vidmakthålls i enlighet med systemmålsättningar.
