BatMAX PostDoc at MAX IV (XRD-CT)

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is consistently ranked among the world's leading academic institutions. With approximately 46,000 students and 8,500 employees in Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö, we are united in our mission to understand, explain, and improve our world and people's circumstances. Your Teams This project is a collaboration between MAX IV (specifically the DanMAX beamline), the BatMAX hub, and Chalmers University of Technology. This position offers an exciting opportunity for a candidate who wants to work in an environment characterized by close collaboration among many interconnected teams. DanMAX, part of the Hard X-ray Group at MAX IV, is a beamline in materials science specializing in X-ray diffraction and full-field imaging techniques. The beamline serves a broad user community, ranging from physics and chemistry to medical science. A significant portion of the user base conducts research on batteries and battery materials. This postdoctoral position in X-ray diffraction and computed tomography (XRD-CT) is affiliated with the Division of Solid Mechanics at Lund University. Research in solid mechanics at Lund University focuses on theoretical, numerical, and experimental aspects of materials mechanics. The division conducts extensive work in the development and application of X-ray and neutron methods for materials research, as well as research to understand coupled electrochemical-mechanical processes in solid-state batteries; the research is connected to the broader battery research community in Lund. The Project The project will be conducted within the BatMAX hub at MAX IV, a consortium consisting of four universities (Chalmers, Lund, Uppsala, and Aarhus) that will collaborate closely to address challenges related to sodium-ion solid-state batteries through six weeks of beamtime per year distributed across six different beamlines. The BatMAX hub is linked to Battery Matrix, an internal group at MAX IV that enables collaboration across the laboratory in battery research. This postdoctoral position will play an active role in activities spanning multiple beamlines, both through the BatMAX hub and Battery Matrix. DanMAX has offered XRD-CT experiments as part of its user program for some time, but the methodology has not been optimized. In this project, we will optimize the scanning method, hardware, and analysis software to make this powerful technique more accessible and useful. Recently, new diamond CRLs have been acquired for DanMAX, enabling focusing of the beam to approximately 1–2 µm and thereby significantly improving the achievable resolution. Combined with our fast tomography table and improved scanning sequencing, considerable improvements in temporal and spatial resolution will be possible, enabling an expansion of the application areas for this type of experiment in battery research, as well as in many other research fields. The project will also include development of algorithms for iterative reconstruction and noise reduction to improve the quality of spatially resolved XRD data. MAX IV and the BatMAX consortium seek a postdoctoral researcher to: Lead the development of X-ray diffraction and computed tomography (XRD-CT) at the DanMAX beamline in close collaboration with the Solid Mechanics group at Lund University. Participate scientifically and technically in the BatMAX project in collaboration with the consortium. Participate in MAX IV Battery Matrix, particularly in projects spanning multiple beamlines. Your main responsibilities will be to: Work at the DanMAX beamline. Specifically, lead the development of XRD-CT, including development of hardware, scanning algorithms, and reconstruction software. Participate in beamline operations, including user support, hardware maintenance, and software development, with a focus on battery research and the application of XRD-CT. Conduct experimental research utilizing XRD-CT for battery research. Participate in the BatMAX consortium, including planning of beamtimes, conducting experiments, analyzing results, and authoring scientific papers. To succeed in this role, you must have the following qualifications: A doctorate in chemistry, physics, engineering, or a related field. Documented experience with X-ray imaging/diffraction techniques, such as XRD-CT, 3D-XRD, µ/nanoCT, STXM, or similar. Experience with computer programming for data analysis, e.g., Python. Documented ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Excellent English language skills and strong communication and collaboration abilities. The following are considered merits: Knowledge of tomographic reconstruction techniques. Experience with experiments at synchrotron and/or neutron sources. Experience with and good understanding of electrochemistry, including batteries. Knowledge of solid-state and/or sodium-ion battery chemistry. Experience with user support at user facilities. Eligibility To be appointed to a postdoctoral position, the applicant must hold a doctorate or an international degree deemed equivalent to a doctorate in the field of the position, and this degree must have been completed no more than three years before the application deadline. Under special circumstances, the doctorate may have been completed before the aforementioned three-year period. ST - Doctor at Viklinik Primary Care Center

Does your heart beat a little faster for Lund? Then maybe we are the workplace for you :-) On April 1, 2026, Viklinik Primary Care Center celebrated 4 years in central Lund. We currently have 50 employees and take care of the health of just over 10,000 Lundabors. We continue to grow with patients choosing to register with us every month. Viklinik Primary Care Center has been the highest ranked in Lund Municipality and ranked among the absolute highest in Skåne in SKR's National Patient Survey for 4 years in a row. The doctor group currently consists of 10 doctors, 5 general practitioners and 5 ST doctors. The primary care center is a gathering place for wellbeing and sharing of knowledge and motivation for both employees and patients. Lundabors come here not only for assessment and medication, but for the whole package, activity and community. Healthier care for both staff and patients! With long-term perspective and preventive measures, we aim to offer healthier care for both our staff and patients, increase patient participation in care and reduce healthcare needs in the long run. Preventive measures such as physical activity, health conversations, nutritional advice, smoking cessation, weight management classes, stress management classes, etc. are in focus to keep individuals healthy and well. As an ST doctor with us, you are social and enjoy creating long-term relationships with your colleagues and patients. You like to be physically active and healthy yourself, as we enjoy being active together as colleagues and we like to socialize outside of work as well. We are a stable doctor group that supervises and supports you in your daily work and in your development towards becoming a General Practitioner. We have child health services and elderly care services within our own operations, so you will meet patients across the spectrum from newborns to elderly. We always work based on current evidence and research, and in digital-physical care chains when the patient requests it. You should enjoy challenging your own and the collective's working methods and be stimulated by the fact that we as colleagues develop competence and lift each other. Great flexibility and participation in how the primary care center will work with your expertise is required and driven by your personal wishes and motivations in how you want to develop in your future specialist competence. You create your own work day and what it includes and how it is utilized and communicated to patients. You work with patients individually and together with other professional categories. You must be very comfortable with computer work and performing part of your work via digital platforms and AI tools to facilitate your administrative work. We work overall at the primary care center with what we call the "Viklinik Model" which means that as a doctor you control your own workday and how you want to care for your patients in the best way, i.e. you are not just a care provider but a co-determiner of how care for your patients and your care should be conducted. With the model, we have largely succeeded in eliminating waiting times for visits and increasing access to care in a fantastic way while also securing the work environment for you as a doctor. In this recruitment, we invest more in a person than a CV and we value personal suitability for the work and that you fit into our existing team at the clinic is A and O. You must also be completely fluent in Swedish and English. Type: Permanent employment. Scope: 100% Salary: Individual. We prioritize applicants who want to start an ST position with us from the beginning over applicants who want to transfer their ST position to us. Start: By agreement during 2027. But flexible from January - April 2027. NOTE! Interviews start in late August and continue throughout the fall and the position may be filled before the application deadline expires. PhD Student in Biology with Focus on Microbial Ecology

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is consistently ranked as one of the world's leading academic institutions. Here you will find approximately 46,000 students and 8,500 employees in Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö. We are united in our pursuit to understand, explain, and improve our world and people's living conditions. Description of the Position You will be active within the research environment Microbial Biogeochemistry in Lund (MBLU) at the Department of Biology, Lund University, under the supervision of Professor Johannes Rousk and Senior Researcher Dr. Lettice Hicks. MBLU is a research environment that studies terrestrial ecosystems to increase our understanding of how soil microorganisms regulate global biogeochemical processes and how these affect ecosystems' responses to environmental changes. We are an interdisciplinary research group consisting of microbial ecologists, ecosystem ecologists, biogeochemists, and model developers who share a common research vision and combine empirical studies with modeling. Our research focuses on carbon and nutrient cycling in soil ecosystems worldwide – from arctic tundra to tropical rainforests and semi-arid grasslands. We are particularly interested in factors affecting the spatial and temporal variation in microbial community structure and function, as well as their resistance to various types of stress. Special emphasis is placed on environmental factors such as soil moisture, temperature, nutrient limitation, salinity, and pH, as well as anthropogenic factors such as tillage, fertilization, and metal pollution. Through field and laboratory experiments, we investigate how microorganisms regulate ecosystem functions and how these are affected by the environment. The ecological knowledge generated is then integrated into models that operate at various spatial and temporal scales. Being a PhD Student As a doctoral student, you are both admitted as a student and employed by Lund University. Doctoral education provides you with training in scientific methodology. You develop the ability to think critically and analytically, to independently formulate and solve scientific problems using appropriate methods, and to make research ethics assessments. During your studies, you will also have the opportunity to participate in research projects and develop your leadership and pedagogical skills. Throughout your doctoral education, you will receive support from your supervisors. Your studies conclude with a doctoral dissertation and a doctoral degree. More information about doctoral education at the Faculty of Science is available at naturvetenskap.lu.se Subject and Project Description We are seeking a doctoral student to investigate whether and how soil microbial communities can adapt their characteristics to improve their function during drought and after the drought has ended. The project specifically aims to clarify how microorganisms' resistance and resilience to drought arise, as well as what ecological, physiological, and/or evolutionary mechanisms underlie these processes. The work will combine controlled laboratory experiments, greenhouse pot experiments, and field experiments to increase understanding of how microbial ecology affects ecosystem biogeochemistry. There will also be an opportunity to integrate ongoing studies where experimental drought treatments have been conducted in arctic and other terrestrial ecosystems. The project's central analyses include determining microbial growth in intact soil samples using radioactive and stable isotope tracing methods, as well as measuring biogeochemical processes such as carbon and nutrient cycling. The project offers qualified doctoral education in soil microbial ecology and biogeochemistry. The work is primarily laboratory-based but includes opportunities for fieldwork. The project is particularly suitable for applicants with backgrounds in soil microbial ecology, ecosystem ecology, and biogeochemistry. General Study Plan for Doctoral Education Duties and Responsibilities You will primarily dedicate yourself to your doctoral education, which largely consists of writing a doctoral dissertation. During your studies, you will learn to determine microbial growth rates in intact soil samples by tracing isotope uptake (stable and radioisotopes) in various biomarkers. By determining growth rates under gradients of environmental conditions (e.g., water content), you will be able to determine functional trait compositions, which can be described with mathematical functions and represented in ecosystem flow models. To answer your research questions, you will have the opportunity to use a combination of field experiments (e.g., rain exclusion treatments), greenhouse experiments, and microcosm experiments in the lab. A large portion of the work will be connected to analytical methods in the lab. You will analyze large amounts of biological data extracted from your experimental systems and use advanced analytical methods as well as write scientific articles. You are expected to actively participate in ongoing projects within the research group and plan and conduct your own analyses of how microorganisms' processes depend on water availability and how they can adapt to drought. As a researcher, you will also present your work in seminars and at international conferences. Doctoral education also includes a number of mandatory courses and elective specialized courses that contribute to your development in formulating and presenting scientific questions. In addition to your studies, a maximum of 20% of your working time may be devoted to teaching and other departmental work. Depending on your background, you may teach in introductory biology courses or more advanced courses such as soil and plant ecology.
