Duties The work includes planning, administration, implementation, and reporting of a university course. Your work is based on the course plan and is carried out together with a colleague and in close collaboration with guest lecturers, the course working group (consisting of experienced university teachers, researchers, and professors), and the course coordinator at CEMUS. The tasks include, among other things, contacting guest lecturers and students, planning the course structure and materials, preparing and leading seminars and workshops, and course administration. The work involves creatively building on experiences from previous course sessions and passing on your own experiences to future student assistants and course assistants. Postdoctoral Researcher
The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University has a broad research profile with strong research groups focused on, among other areas, cancer, genetic and autoimmune diseases. One of the guiding principles at the department is to stimulate translational research and thereby promote closer collaboration between medical research and healthcare. Research is conducted within six research programs: cancer precision medicine, cancer immunotherapy, genomics and neurobiology, molecular tools and functional genomics, neuro-oncology and neurodegeneration, and vascular biology. In this role you will: - Design, modify, and functionally validate new CAR-T cell constructs. - Use large-scale CRISPR screening platforms to identify genetic regulators of T cell persistence, tumor infiltration, and resistance mechanisms. - Perform complex in vitro analyses (e.g., cytotoxicity assays, cytokine profiling, and flow cytometry) as well as preclinical in vivo evaluations. - Collaborate closely with internal and external academic partners, clinical teams, and industry partners. - Analyze high-dimensional data and compile and write scientific manuscripts for publication in high-ranking journals. Qualifications - Ph.D. in immunology, cancer biology, biotechnology, molecular biology, or another relevant field, or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a Ph.D. in the same. The degree must be completed by the time the employment decision is made. Ideally, the degree should have been obtained no more than three years ago. When calculating the three-year period, the deadline for applications is the starting point. If there are special circumstances, such a degree may have been obtained earlier. Special circumstances include leave due to illness, parental leave, positions of trust within trade union organizations, etc. - Documented practical experience in designing, producing, and validating CAR-T cells. - Demonstrated technical expertise in designing, conducting, and analyzing CRISPR screening (e.g., pooled or arrayed screening). - Strong background in molecular cloning, production of viral vectors (lentivirus/retrovirus), and culturing of primary human T cells. - High competence in advanced flow cytometry (multi-color panels, sorting) and standardized immunological assays. - Experience with animal work, including conducting preclinical in vivo experiments, is advantageous. Lignin, a renewable by-product from the pulp and paper industry, is converted into highly porous biochar that concentrates PFAS from contaminated water. Enzyme immobilization on the biochar surface extends enzyme lifespan, improves substrate accessibility, and creates a synergistic system where adsorption brings PFAS into close contact with the enzyme's active sites. The research proceeds through three coordinated work packages: (WP1) screening of extracellular enzymes for PFAS transformation using real contaminated groundwater; (WP2) development and validation of biochar-enzyme composites; and (WP3) pilot-scale testing in lysimeter systems with contaminated water and soil from former fire training sites. The PhD student will work under the main supervision of Assistant Professor Tetyana Budnyak and co-supervision of Professor Fritjof Fagerlund. The project is funded by a Tuffo grant, with co-financing from Uppsala University. The research subject for your doctoral studies is environmental analysis. The project will involve close collaboration with industry partners and other relevant actors, as well as with academic research groups in Sweden and internationally, which gives the PhD student the opportunity to work in a broad, interdisciplinary, and collaboration-oriented research environment. Duties The main task of a PhD student is to pursue doctoral research training, which includes both participation in research projects and research training courses. The duties may also include participation in teaching and other departmental work, but no more than 20% of working time. The duties will include synthesis and characterization of lignin-based biochar materials, screening and immobilization of enzymes, and evaluation of PFAS adsorption and degradation performance in laboratory column experiments and pilot-scale lysimeter systems with real PFAS-contaminated soil and groundwater. Qualification Requirements To be eligible for doctoral-level education, you must have completed a degree at advanced level in chemistry, biochemistry, environmental chemistry, materials science, environmental engineering, or related fields completed at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at advanced level including an independent thesis of at least 15 higher education credits, or acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way. The program operates a new Field Emission Electron Probe Microanalyzer (JXA-8530F JEOL HYPERPROBE), equipped with five crystal spectrometers (WDS), secondary (SE) and backscatter electron detectors (BSE). The instrument performs quantitative chemical analyses at a micrometer scale and imaging of minerals or materials down to a nanometer scale. Quantitative analyses of elements are possible in the range from beryllium to uranium. Job Responsibilities The research assistant will be responsible for operation and maintenance of the FE-EPMA and general management of the laboratory. In addition to routine operation and customer service, responsibilities will also include development and implementation of new micro-analytical methods such as in-situ chemical dating, trace element-based geothermobarometry, and basic analysis of volatile elements (depending on demand). Responsibilities will also include assisting students using the EMPA and training related to the role focus. Qualification Requirements Master's degree in mineralogy and/or petrology. Experience with Field Emission Electron MicroProbe and conventional electron microprobe is required. The applicant should also have a background in other electron-based micro-beam techniques such as SEM-EDS-EBSD and parallel techniques: Raman spectroscopy and practical understanding of mass spectrometry methods (e.g. LA-ICP-MS) applied to rock-forming minerals. Desired/Meriting Qualifications Practical experience with JEOL EPMA instruments (and specifically JXA-8530F Field Emission EPMA) is highly meriting. Experience in preparing EPMA datasets for thermodynamic modeling and geochronology is also highly meriting. It is desirable that the candidate has documented strong knowledge in modern mineralogy and petrology. Ability to build and develop professional networks with colleagues and to maintain close contact and collaboration with other institutions and laboratories worldwide is meriting. Knowledge of Swedish bedrock and training experience is meriting. Investigator with Focus on Technology-Facilitated Violence at the National Centre for Knowledge on Men's Violence Against Women The National Centre for Knowledge on Men's Violence Against Women (NCK) at Uppsala University and Akademiska Hospital has a government mandate to increase national knowledge about men's violence against women, honor-related violence and oppression, and violence in same-sex relationships. NCK is divided into a university division focused on research, education and information, and a clinical division with practice-oriented activities. The center is led by a director and is part of the Department of Women's and Children's Health (KBH). NCK strategically combines national work with research, education, communication and direct support to victims of violence. We operate four national support hotlines and chat services, as well as the Women's Peace Reception at Akademiska Hospital. Approximately 80 employees work in our interdisciplinary environments where knowledge, commitment and social benefit are central. For more information, see NCK's website. NCK is now seeking an investigator to strengthen work on analysis and collaboration. The position includes tasks such as analysis, report writing, compilation of knowledge within specific areas for various documents, and environmental monitoring. Digital tools, platforms and services increasingly play a role in violence perpetration, and NCK is in a development phase where we are strengthening our work in this area with a focus on support. As an investigator, you will be part of this project and help develop how support for people experiencing technology-facilitated violence can be strengthened. The project combines computational chemistry, molecular modeling, and artificial intelligence. Postdoctoral Fellow in Solid-State Halide Electrolytes: Ion Transport and Interface Stability
Description The Department of Chemistry - Ångström conducts research and education in chemistry. The department has 270 employees and annual revenues of 300 million kronor. The Department of Chemistry at Ångström Laboratory has long been home to a leading research and development environment in materials for energy storage and their applications: the Ångström Advanced Battery Centre. We develop new electrode and electrolyte materials, characterize and evaluate their properties, and improve their performance in battery applications. Furthermore, we study fundamental chemical processes and material properties using both experimental and computational methods. The research spans from basic research to applied research. Responsibilities The project focuses on the discovery and development of new halide-based solid electrolytes for use in all-solid-state batteries. Halide-based solid electrolytes are a promising materials class due to their high lithium-ion conductivity and potential compatibility with high-voltage cathode materials. However, their practical application is often limited by insufficient chemical and electrochemical stability at the interface between the negative electrode and the electrolyte. The overall goal of the project is to develop a fundamental understanding of the origin of these stability limitations and to use this knowledge to guide the design of new halide-based compositions that combine high lithium-ion conductivity with improved chemical and electrochemical stability. A central objective is to establish relationships between composition, structure, ion transport properties, and stability. The work will include synthesis of new solid electrolytes and investigation of the mechanisms governing their degradation and boundary reactions with battery electrode materials. Based on this understanding, new compositions and material design strategies will be explored to overcome the existing trade-off between high ion conductivity and stability. The research will thus combine material synthesis, structural and electrochemical characterization, and electrochemical testing in battery cells. The primary responsibilities are to conduct research. The position may also include teaching up to 20% of working time, as well as supervision of and collaboration with doctoral and master's students. Qualifications A doctoral degree in chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, or a related field, or a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a doctoral degree. The degree must be completed by the time of the employment decision. Normally, the doctoral degree should have been completed within the last three years, calculated from the final application deadline. Under special circumstances, the degree may have been completed earlier. In assessing applications, particular weight will be given to the applicant's ability to conduct independent research and scientific competence. The applicant must have documented experience in synthesis and characterization of inorganic solid-state materials, including structural characterization using, for example, X-ray and neutron diffraction, and characterization of ion transport using impedance spectroscopy. The Planning Department provides qualified support to university management on strategic matters and issues related to operations management and development. The department is organized into two units and consists of a total of 21 employees. This position is located in the Planning and Monitoring unit. We are now seeking an Operations Controller interested in working with analyses of education and research. Responsibilities As an Operations Controller, you will work with university-wide planning, monitoring, and analysis of operations. A central part of the assignment is to monitor goals within education and research, both in annually recurring reports and in in-depth analyses. The work may involve processing large volumes of data.
