Description The Department of Chemistry - Ångström conducts research and education in chemistry. The department has 270 employees and an annual turnover of 330 million kronor. At the department's five programs, highly successful research of high international caliber is conducted. We have a large number of externally funded research projects, often with international collaboration. The department has educational responsibilities within engineering and civil engineering programs as well as master's programs. More information is available on our website. We are seeking an economist who wants to work close to operations and strategically in a complex research environment with responsibility for ongoing financial work for one or several departments at the institution. The role involves providing qualified support to department heads with focus on accounting and financial management by providing financial information, analysis, and follow-up. In your role, you are also expected to provide support to our researchers regarding project budgeting and reporting to various funding agencies. The role also includes routine financial tasks that require precision and an unpretentious work approach and attitude to succeed. You will be part of the department's operational support team and work closely with your colleagues. The finance function currently consists of one finance coordinator and six economists, and together you work actively on developing the institution's financial management and financial processes. You take independent responsibility for your areas of responsibility and have no problem stepping in and supporting others within the finance function when needed. Responsibilities As an economist, you are responsible for: Preparing budgets, financial statements, forecasts, and analyses at the department level Ongoing financial accounting Providing financial support to department heads and researchers Reporting and accounting to national and international funders in externally funded research projects Ensuring compliance with regulations (governmental and external) Developing and quality assuring financial processes and routines Simple administrative tasks may also occur. Qualifications Formal Requirements Academic degree in economics or equivalent competence that the employer deems equivalent Well-documented professional experience in qualified financial work Documented experience with budgeting, financial statements, analysis, and forecasting Very good knowledge of Swedish and English in speech and writing Very good knowledge of Excel and other Office tools Good knowledge of accounting principles and financial follow-up Experience working independently with processes from start to finish and managing multiple parallel processes simultaneously Strong analytical ability and experience presenting decision-making materials Personal Qualities To succeed in the role, you are: Strategic and analytical with a holistic perspective Self-driven and confident in your professional role Structured and handle deadlines effectively Accustomed to prioritizing tasks based on importance and delivery Have good ability to handle situations where workload is periodically high Initiative-taking and development-oriented Pedagogical and communicative with different stakeholder groups Relationship-building and service-oriented Unpretentious Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability. Meritorious Experience in financial work within public sector operations, preferably at a university/higher education institution Good knowledge of public accounting and regulations Documented experience with externally funded research Experience with EU projects and their financial regulations Experience with finance and payroll systems such as Raindance, Proceedo, Primula, or equivalent.
