The position is formally placed at the Department of Clinical Geriatrics, Uppsala University. The work is conducted within the framework of a well-defined clinical research project that combines clinical geriatrics, immunology, and microbiome research. The practical laboratory work is performed at the Department of Molecular Geriatrics at the Rudbeck Laboratory, which offers modern wet labs and a well-functioning and collegial research environment. The project is part of an interdisciplinary research collaboration with established expertise in immunology and flow cytometry and takes place in close collaboration with the core facility BioVis. The position offers practical experience in high-quality laboratory work and data processing in an interdisciplinary research environment. Work Tasks The work encompasses laboratory and data-oriented tasks within an ongoing clinical research project. The work tasks include careful handling of fresh and frozen human biological samples, isolation of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) and DNA using sterile methods, and performance of established laboratory analyses, including PCR-based analyses. The work also includes coordination of sample logistics in collaboration with clinical partners and external research infrastructures. Multiparameter flow cytometry is performed in collaboration with the core facility BioVis. The work tasks include practical experimental work, quality control of data, gating and analysis, and structuring of flow cytometry data for integration with existing datasets. The position also includes documentation and reporting of results. Qualification Requirements Formal Qualifications Master's degree in immunology, biomedicine, molecular biology, or a closely related field Professional Competence Documented experience with laboratory work involving human biological samples Experience with sterile laboratory work Experience with PBMC isolation Experience with flow cytometry, including multiparameter panels and gating Experience with DNA isolation Experience with PCR-based laboratory methods Experience with basic data processing and analysis, preferably in R Personal Abilities Ability to plan, perform, and document laboratory work in a structured manner with high accuracy and reproducibility Ability to work independently and take responsibility for laboratory workflows A structured, meticulous, and quality-conscious work approach Good collaboration skills and ability to cooperate with researchers, clinicians, and external partners Very good ability to express yourself orally and in writing in English Desirable/Meriting Experience Experience from clinically oriented or translational research projects Experience with coordination of sample logistics and collaboration with external research infrastructures (e.g., sequencing facilities) Experience with complex, multi-step laboratory protocols Experience with structured data management and documentation to support reproducible research Previous involvement in scientific reports or manuscripts About the Position The position is time-limited, 6 months.
