Subject description Robotics and artificial intelligence aim to develop novel robotic systems that are characterized by advanced autonomy for improving the ability of robots to interact with the surrounding environment and humans during the execution of specific tasks. Project description You will join the RAI team and contribute to the development of next-generation soft robotic systems that can adapt to complex environments and uncertain interaction conditions. The vision of RAI is to close the gap from theory to real life, while the team has strong expertise in field robotics. The research will combine theoretical development, simulation and hands-on experimentation. Relevant directions include embodied intelligence, foundation models for adaptive soft robots, real-time stiffness-aware control, resilient autonomy for self-healing robotic platforms, and uncertainty-aware predictive human–robot interaction. The work will be connected to national and international research and innovation projects. Duties As a PhD student, you will carry out both theoretical and experimental research within your doctoral studies. Most of your working time will be devoted to your research. You will communicate your results through publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national and international conferences. The position may also include teaching, supervision of master's students and participation in research funding applications. You will be working in the field of robotic autonomy and all activities will be linked with national, European and worldwide R&D projects. The research topic is in the area of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence. Qualifications and Experience To be qualified for a research assistant position, you must have a 3-year university degree in information systems or another relevant field. Strong scientific skills and experience in qualitative and quantitative research, as well as good communication skills in speech and writing. You will participate in teaching activities that are conducted in Swedish, so good knowledge of Swedish is required. We are looking for engaged people who have: An interest in teaching, research, and innovation. A solid educational background, for example a bachelor's degree in information systems or related fields. Interest in societal and humanistic aspects of information systems. Good communication skills to clearly and convincingly convey complex ideas. Terms Employment as a research assistant is governed by the Higher Education Ordinance 5 Chapter. Only those admitted to education at the basic or advanced level can be employed as a research assistant (HF 5 Chapter §10). Hourly Rate/Compensation For all assignments, you will receive an hourly rate plus valuable work experience for your CV. Hourly rate depending on the difficulty of the work task: Level 1: 156 kr/hour (corresponds to approximately 25,700 kr/month for full-time work). Level 2: 171 kr/hour (corresponds to approximately 28,200 kr/month for full-time work). Information The position comprises at least 25% of full-time with a possible extent up to 50%, starting September 22, 2026, and until an agreed date. Possibility of extension by agreement. Workplace is Luleå. Workload may vary over time and by agreement, but the aim is to distribute it in a way that makes it compatible with studies at the university.
