PhD position

Department of Forest Ecology and Management Third-cycle subject area Biology Description of the doctoral project Nitrogen availability is a major constraint on plant growth and carbon sequestration in boreal forest soils. Although proteins constitute a large fraction of the soil nitrogen pool, the processes governing their breakdown into amino acids remain poorly understood. A critical knowledge gap lies in understanding the composition and properties of soil proteins and their role in regulating nitrogen cycling. This PhD project will address this challenge by characterizing soil protein composition and investigating the mechanisms that control nitrogen turnover. The doctoral candidate will primarily work in the laboratory, analysing natural soils from mesocosm and field experiments. Analytical work will be done in close collaboration with the Umeå Proteomics Platform. https://www.umu.se/en/research/infrastructure/umea-proteomics-platform/ The project is led by Sandra Jämtgård, Department of Forest Ecology and Management, SLU in collaboration with Maja Sundquist and Jonatan Klaminder. PhD Student in Chemistry, with a focus on Inorganic Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry is seeking a PhD student in chemistry with a focus on inorganic chemistry or materials chemistry. The start date is no earlier than October 1 or by agreement, but no later than January 31, 2027. Project Description and Work Tasks Throughout the entire nuclear fuel cycle, from fuel processing to its final disposal, interfaces between water and metal oxides arise where ionizing radiation induces radiolysis of water. We have Sweden's most important job - our mission is to provide hope for the future. The work is conducted in close collaboration with actors such as social services, the Social Insurance Agency, the Public Employment Service, Region Västerbotten, the Correctional Service, and employers. We are an active party in the collaboration platform Labor Market Square, where we together with government agencies offer coordinated support to people who need help moving forward to employment or studies. The operations are highly dependent on external factors such as societal development, political decisions, changed legislation, and labor market conditions. These changes require continuous development and adaptation of operations. Would you like to contribute to us in the role of career and educational guidance counselor? The work involves short and long processes with participants who are far from employment and studies, which requires the role to have a coaching approach with the ability to follow up on progress over time, and the courage to explore pathways together with people who have lost motivation. The assignment involves providing conditions to begin/resume studies, or to take steps toward internships/employment. Collaboration with various actors, supporting applications to different educational options, and planning, following up, and concluding internship positions are part of the role. In the assignment, you actively contribute to developing the department's work around studies by highlighting studies as an option for all ages. Documentation tasks within KAA require that you have the willingness to learn, or knowledge of, relevant follow-up systems. Other documentation is done according to procedures in the current operational system. About you You have high social competence, good communication and collaboration skills. You have an easy time building trusting relationships and hope for the future with young people, guardians, and older participants. You are engaged, self-driven, and structured, with good prioritization skills, persistent in your work, and have a quality-conscious work approach. Furthermore, you are flexible, relationship-building, and enjoy working both independently and in a team. Working in the Employment and Integration Department requires an interest and willingness to continuously develop and contribute to the development of operations. We place great emphasis on personal suitability. Requirements Degree from a career and educational guidance counselor program Knowledge and experience of the education system, guidance from primary to secondary school, and knowledge of the labor market Experience meeting participants with varying needs for special support Experience with NPF, physical/mental health issues, or norm-breaking behavior B-class driver's license Unobstructed knowledge of the Swedish language in speech and writing, as well as good knowledge of English We warmly welcome your application! I'm Discovering Life, Will You Join Me on the Journey?

The Disability Services department in Umeå Municipality aims to be a resource that, through proximity and collaboration, unlocks and strengthens people's ability to live independent lives. Individuals under 65 years old who have a disability and extensive support needs can apply for personal assistance. A personal assistant helps someone with basic needs, such as eating, getting dressed, washing, and communicating. The assistance is individually tailored and should provide increased opportunities for people with disabilities to live independent lives. I'm discovering life, will you join me on the journey? Now I'm looking for 2 reliable and trustworthy personal assistants who have a good sense of humor! About Me I'm a 45-year-old woman who wants to explore the world and is looking for someone who has a good sense of humor, but who is also not afraid of difficult and challenging emotions. I appreciate humor, laughter, and wild adventures. Due to trauma, I experience flashbacks, nightmares, body memories, and panic attacks. During these moments, I need help and support from my assistants. It's important to me that you and I build a good relationship so that I feel safe with you. It may take some time, so I want you to be patient. Together we plan and structure our days to find a reasonable activity level. Our everyday life alternates between fun activities and managing difficult feelings and challenging memories. Your Responsibilities You will support and assist me, a 45-year-old woman with high-functioning autism and complex PTSD. Your primary task is to help me with stress regulation, emotional management, and finding strategies to act constructively in difficult situations. You will also accompany me on activities. These can range from outdoor activities to shopping. I have a strong interest in spending time in nature and being physically active. I would like to see that you share this interest and have the energy for it. Of course, we have fun together, and when needed, you support and guide me through everyday life. About You My hope is that you are a middle-aged woman who is stable and confident in yourself and can remain composed and focused even in tough situations. You are attentive and good at reading situations, making it easy for you to follow along with my varying moods. Your attentiveness means you're always one step ahead and act as a stress regulator. You radiate calmness to those around you, stay composed, and maintain your full focus on the task. You see challenges where others see obstacles and stand firm when the storm comes. The work requires personal maturity and the ability to take initiative and make decisions when needed, and to act constructively in difficult situations. You need to show great commitment and have an interest in working with behavioral change. It's desirable if you have education in pedagogy or social work, such as a social worker, behavioral pedagogue, or equivalent. You may have experience working with traumatized people, as well as people with self-harm behaviors and autism. It's also important that neither you nor anyone close to you smokes, as I have asthma. Fluent Swedish is a requirement, as clear communication is essential for understanding my needs and creating a safe and functional everyday life. The personal chemistry between you and me is important, so personal suitability is highly valued. I would like you to have a B driver's license, but it's not a requirement. Heavy lifting occurs in the workplace. Other Information 2 permanent positions, 60-100% with start as soon as possible, by agreement.
