The Faculty of Medicine is one of the largest faculties at Umeå University and attracts many students with a comprehensive range of programs in the areas of medicine, dentistry, health, and care. Our close collaboration with the four regions in the Northern Healthcare Region we see as a major mutual asset for developing research and education and for ensuring access to our future healthcare personnel. At the Office for Medicine, there are currently just over 40 employees working on issues related to economics, HR, research, education, and communication, as well as administration of the medical program. We are now seeking an economist for the team that works on economics and budget matters. Job Description As an economist at the office, you will be part of a group consisting of three controllers and two economists. The work tasks consist mainly of project budgeting and reporting, financial follow-up and forecasting, development of analyses/calculations, review of financial matters, requisition of funds, invoicing, development of routines and methods. The work also includes responsibility for supplier invoices and review of travel expenses. The work may also involve accounting tasks at the faculty's institutions, for example in connection with personnel changes. In your role, you function as an advisor and support to managers and finance functions within the faculty's operations. You may also present matters in the faculty's various committees, steering groups, and commissions. The work tasks may change over time. You may also be included in parts of the faculty's other budget and forecasting work. Competence Requirements We are looking for someone with at least a bachelor's degree in economics or other education that the employer considers equivalent. The work requires excellent organizational skills, accuracy, and the ability to structure and plan work tasks. You are self-driven, solution-oriented, and have good analytical skills. As a person, you have a good ability to see connections, create simple and clear structures, and describe them in a pedagogical way. Since the work involves many contacts with people at different levels within the university, you need to have good collaboration skills. You have the ability to express yourself well both orally and in writing in Swedish and English. You have good computer skills and experience with computer-based administrative systems. Excellent knowledge of the Office suite, especially Excel, is a requirement. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability. Other Desirable Qualifications Previous experience with accounting work, such as project reporting and follow-up as well as preparation of budgets and financial statements, is considered meritorious for the position.
