Make a difference. Every day. The Neurointensive Care Unit (NIVA) in Lund provides highly specialized intensive care and is part of the neurosurgery and pain rehabilitation operational area. We have a regional mandate to serve the entire Southern Healthcare Region with highly specialized neurointensive care. NIVA has six intensive care beds where we primarily care for patients with severe head and/or spinal injuries. We are a high-technology intensive care unit characterized by a commitment to achieving medical results of the highest quality. NIVA also has an intermediate care unit (IMA) with five care beds where we care for acute patients requiring intermediate care. The unit also functions as a step-down unit for our patients who no longer require intensive care. The care needs in IMA can vary from advanced care to lighter monitoring. We also have a postoperative unit with four care beds where we provide postoperative care for newly operated patients from the operation. Children who have undergone surgery are also cared for in the postoperative unit. The Neurosurgery Department in Lund is one of Sweden's six facilities providing neurosurgery. We operate around the clock in our operating department and we also have a care ward, day care operations, and an outpatient clinic.
