Together with the nursing assistants in your care team, you prepare and conduct daily rounds on the unit. You are a key person who, together with your nursing colleagues, leads and distributes the work on the unit. Work days with us can look very different. Researcher
Department of Animal Biosciences We are seeking a researcher who wants to work on developing new and innovative detection methods for identifying chemical and infectious substances, as well as various types of biomarkers for pathogen detection. The long-term goal is to develop detection methods that can be used in research but above all provide practical benefits through routine use outside academia—for improved food safety, enhanced animal and public health, and optimized pharmaceutical treatment. This position provides excellent conditions to establish your own research line, and it is expected that the recruited researcher will actively seek external funding to ensure long-term financing of the research direction. About the Job At the Department of Food Safety, Infection Biology, Pharmacology and Toxicology (LIFT), we work across a broad range of subjects: food safety, bacteriology, parasitology, virology, One Health, pharmacology, and toxicology. What unites all these fields is an interest and need to develop new innovative detection methods for biological molecules as well as chemical and infectious substances. In many cases, it would be desirable for these detection methods to be designed so they can be used in field conditions. LIFT is now recruiting a researcher in the field of developing innovative detection methods to intensify our work on these issues and to increase collaboration between the different subjects at our department. The researcher position is fully funded for four years, and the recruited researcher is expected during this time to work actively on seeking external research grants to ensure long-term financing of this research direction. The work will be conducted in close collaboration with existing researchers at LIFT, and therefore the person we seek must have excellent collaborative skills. Duties include planning and conducting research initiatives, presenting research results and writing scientific articles, supervising students and doctoral candidates, conference participation, actively working to obtain external research funding, and some administrative work. We are looking for someone who wants to work on developing new innovative detection methods with the long-term goal of improved food safety, enhanced animal and public health, and optimized pharmaceutical treatment. The focus is on identifying biomarkers for detection of pathogens, as well as chemical and infectious substances and other biological molecules. Your Background We seek someone with a scientific background and a doctoral degree in one of the scientific areas we work with at LIFT (food safety, bacteriology, parasitology, virology, One Health, pharmacology, and toxicology). It is a requirement that you have your own experience with independent, practical laboratory work in advanced method development within one of these scientific areas. The experience should include development, optimization, and validation of molecular, enzymatic, or cell-based analytical methods. Since it is a stated ambition that the developed methods should also be able to provide practical benefits outside academia, we would like to see that you have documented experience working with innovation and commercialization, as well as research-related work in regulatory environments where the quality, documentation, usability, and acceptance of new analytical methods outside academia have been in focus. We are looking for someone with strong personal motivation for research work and a long-term ambition to build your own academic research line. Furthermore, you need to have good ability to collaborate with many people, as we have the ambition for this to be an interdisciplinary effort that includes all subjects at LIFT. It is a merit if you have scientific experience (e.g., your own research work, grant applications, teaching) from several (at least two) of the subjects we work with at LIFT. Furthermore, it is a merit if you have documented experience working with innovation and commercialization. For this position, it is required that you speak and write Swedish fluently and have good knowledge of English. The position will be offered to the person who, after a qualitative overall assessment, is considered to have the best conditions to carry out and develop the current work tasks and contribute to positive development of the operation. About Us The Department of Animal Biosciences (HBIO) is part of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science and is responsible for education, research, and postgraduate studies in several basic and applied scientific areas. These areas include anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, pharmacology, toxicology, breeding and genetics, immunology, bacteriology, virology, parasitology, epizootiology, comparative medicine, food safety, and One Health. Our research encompasses everything from production animals to sports and companion animals, laboratory animals, and wildlife. The department's researchers work across the full spectrum from molecular mechanisms and microbiology to the structure, function, and behavior of whole animals, and how these are affected by breeding, physical activity, management, production, stress, environmental factors, and disease. Work as a Homework Helper in Uppsala!
Want to make a difference? 19,700 students did not complete primary school in Sweden during the 2024/2025 school year. There are schools where 7 out of 10 students do not meet upper secondary school eligibility requirements. At the nonprofit Stiftelsen Läxhjälpen, you contribute your skills and commitment to help more students achieve eligibility requirements with confidence in their future. We are now recruiting new homework helpers in Uppsala! We are looking for someone interested in a paid part-time job while also making a concrete societal contribution. The position is an hourly contract for afternoons/evenings and involves being a homework helper after school at one of our partner schools. You work as part of a team of three homework helpers, all of whom are university students. You will receive training in and work according to our structured approach. Each homework help group consists of 15 students, and together with your colleagues, you are responsible for planning, implementing, and following up on the work. As a homework helper, you can either work as a regular homework helper or as a substitute. As a regular homework helper, you work 6 hours per week spread across two scheduled afternoons/evenings (opportunities for extra substitution shifts are available). As a substitute, you work when regular homework helpers are on leave or sick. The work is performed after school in the school's facilities. We are looking for someone who: - Is a university or college student - Has pedagogical ability and can communicate and build relationships with children and young people. - Is solution-oriented, takes initiative, and can work according to our structured approach and method. - Has broad fundamental subject competence and good study techniques. - Shares Stiftelsen Läxhjälpen's values and vision of a society where all children grow up with the conditions to succeed in school and shape their own future. Since the job involves working with children, we place great emphasis on personal suitability. Providing an extract from the police criminal record for the employer is a legal requirement for working with children and young people. Differences between schools, where you live, where you come from, and what your parents do increasingly determine how likely you are to succeed in school. Stiftelsen Läxhjälpen is a nonprofit foundation that operates where it is needed most. Homework help is free for students, and homework helpers' salaries are financed through support from the business sector and public sector. Homework help is a concrete measure that addresses one of Sweden's biggest problems today—more and more young people are not succeeding in school and risk being excluded from society. Carefully selected, paid university students help young people with their studies two evenings a week and are also positive role models and mentors. Since our start in 2007, we have developed a structured approach and a clear goal—to improve grades and help students advance to upper secondary school. We are currently present at over 90 schools in, among others, Stockholm, Södertälje, Västerås, Norrköping, Gothenburg, Landskrona, Umeå, Sundsvall, Uppsala, Gävle, and Malmö.
