Research Assistant
The Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics, whose facilities are located primarily in the Arrhenius Laboratories along with the other chemistry departments and other institutions within the Faculty of Science. Nearly 270 people, of whom approximately 60 are doctoral students, are currently active at the department. The research is of absolute world-class quality and spans several major areas. Duties The Sahin Laboratory at Stockholm University studies protein dynamics and conformational landscapes of disordered proteins. We use a combination of biophysics, molecular biology, and biochemistry to study proteins' self-assembly and folding patterns and how these are affected by environmental factors. The work tasks primarily involve practical laboratory work, such as production of recombinant proteins, microscopy, and biophysical characterization. Analysis of experimental data, including analysis of cryo-EM data, is also part of the work. There is an opportunity for the candidate to develop their own project. The person hired will have the opportunity to work in a new research group. The work takes place in a dynamic and collaborative environment at the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics at Stockholm University. Postdoctoral Researcher in Microstructure-Informed Modeling of Fracture Mechanics
Job Responsibilities The position involves both experimental and numerical studies in fracture mechanics. The experimental work focuses on developing new specimen geometries to study defect evolution, especially void formation, under a broad spectrum of stress states, using advanced X-ray computed tomography (CT) in both interrupted and in situ tests. Initial studies will be conducted using the institution's own micro-CT equipment and will later be expanded to synchrotron experiments in collaboration with national and international partners. The experimental results will then be used to develop improved models for damage evolution in continuum-based nonlocal material models, adapted for implementation in finite element models for fracture analysis. These models will be applied to study the ductile-to-brittle transition in HSLA steel. Qualifications Requirements Completed doctoral degree or foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a doctoral degree. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled by the time the employment decision is made. Beyond your scientific skills and pedagogical ability, a relevant doctoral dissertation is desirable, international experience and proficiency in English are necessary as they are required in daily work. We seek a highly motivated and collaborative postdoctoral researcher with a strong background in experimental and computational fracture mechanics. We expect the candidate to work independently, present and disseminate research results at international conferences and through scientific publications in highly ranked journals, and to demonstrate high scientific rigor and integrity. The role involves close collaboration with colleagues from different disciplines, support for doctoral students, and the ability to analyze and address complex challenges in a professional manner.
