Kalix Hospital is a local hospital with the motto "Greatness in a small hospital." We have two care units: the Internal Medicine unit, Palliative Care with 12 beds and the Rehab/Stroke unit with 12 beds. Kalix Hospital was named Sweden's 5th best small hospital in Dagens Medicin 2016, and the Rehab/Stroke unit received honorable mention in 2016, 2017, and 2018 for excellent stroke care in the national stroke registry's annual ranking and was named "best stroke unit" in 2019, 2020, and 2024. Work in the ward is based on clear procedures grounded in the National Board of Health and Welfare's National Guidelines for Stroke Care. The Stroke Unit is part of the alert chain called Save the Brain, which means the ward receives patients for thrombolytic treatment. Department 41 consists of two teams, the Stroke Unit and Neurorehab. Our nursing assistants prioritize patient safety and perform basic care with a rehabilitation focus. In both the Stroke Unit and Neurorehab, we work in multiprofessional teams including nursing assistants, nurses, doctors, occupational therapists, physical therapists, social workers, speech therapists, and rehabilitation instructors. We are a committed team working with a focus on person-centered care and implementing a rehabilitative approach in daily practice. We have good cohesion and an open climate in the ward. Neurorehab has Norrbotten's highest rehabilitation level and is quality certified according to CARF. Here we care for and rehabilitate patients with stroke, traumatic brain injury, and spinal cord injury, among others.
