The SOM Institute at the University of Gothenburg is a center for conducting survey research and for research and development in the field of survey methodology. In close collaboration with research groups, authorities, and organizations, SOM conducts cross-sectional studies, panel studies, and experimental studies at the national, regional, and local levels in Sweden. The survey activities aim to collect and make available the best possible research data about Swedish people's political attitudes, media habits, behaviors, leisure activities, and lifestyles. Today, the surveys constitute one of the most important data sources for Swedish research on society and politics, media use, and opinion formation. The SOM Institute operates two major research activities: the annually recurring SOM surveys and web panels in the form of the Citizen Panel and other smaller research projects. In total, approximately 15–20 people work at the SOM Institute, mainly in the categories of researchers, survey directors, and assistant survey directors. The SOM Institute is located in the Media House at the Department of Journalism, Media and Communication (JMG) at Linnéplatsen in central Gothenburg. Would you like to be a central part of collecting and reporting our data collections? The SOM Institute at the University of Gothenburg is seeking an assistant survey director. The position is a temporary contract at 100% for 17 months. Job Responsibilities The responsibilities include working in collaboration with other staff on the implementation and development of the SOM surveys and the Citizen Panel as well as other smaller research projects. The responsibilities include all aspects of survey work: fieldwork, testing and design of questionnaires, programming of questionnaires, quality assurance, documentation, database management, coding, data processing, and analysis, reporting, and compilation of presentation materials, and more. Presenting results from the SOM Institute's surveys and representing the SOM Institute at events, seminars, and conferences may also be part of the responsibilities. Qualifications To be eligible for employment as an assistant survey director, a university degree at the bachelor's or master's level in a social science subject and experience working with survey data are required. The work requires great attention to detail and the ability to work independently. Excellent knowledge of Swedish is necessary to perform the work, as the SOM Institute's data collections are conducted in Swedish and the position includes participating in the design of questionnaires in Swedish.
