Parliamentary Candidate (O)

For the 2026 parliamentary election, O is seeking parliamentary candidates who are prepared to represent voters who believe that none of the established parties represent them. O works to make Swedish representative democracy fully representative by giving voters the opportunity to vote "no" to all existing alternatives – a "none of the above" as a valid vote in the election that receives actual representation. Eligible voters in Sweden can currently only vote yes to one of the alternatives offered on the ballot – a direct "yes" to a party. Abstaining from voting, voting blank, or submitting an invalid vote does not result in separate representation; instead, the mandates, resources, and political power that these voters represent are distributed among the parties that take seats in parliament – an indirect "yes" to all parties. Duties As an O parliamentary candidate, you register your consent to run for O in the 2026 parliamentary election. If O is awarded mandates and you are offered a seat as an O member of parliament according to election law and parliamentary rules, you commit to fulfilling the mandate that O's voters have given the party. The mandate involves representing voters' no-votes in parliament by voting no to all propositions, motions, and proposals that come up for a vote during the term. The purpose is to ensure that voters who chose O receive the representation they voted for and that their mandate is not converted into support for other parties. As an O member of parliament, you will therefore vote no in every vote throughout the entire term. No exceptions. No negotiations. The mandate is to consistently represent the voters who have chosen O. The mandate is politically neutral. O represents neither right, left, nor center, but the principle of democratic representation. O believes that voting rights can only be complete if they also include the opportunity to vote no. Without such an alternative, voting rights in practice become limited to a choice between different yes-alternatives. The duties are varied and provide opportunities for significant influence and impact. Mathematically speaking, it is harder to form a block majority if "no" is represented in parliament. All other parties will need to exert themselves more and cooperate to pass their political proposals in parliament. Qualifications O is seeking you as someone who: is a Swedish citizen has voting rights in the parliamentary election is eligible for parliament is prepared to represent voters who voted for O is prepared to attend parliament's votes is prepared to follow the mandate to vote no in all votes is prepared to optimize Swedish democracy has an interest in democracy and representation issues feels comfortable representing voters who lack confidence in the current party-political alternatives Meritorious qualifications It is meritorious if you: personally experience that you lack representation in today's party-political system, that you are unrepresented have documented engagement in democracy and social issues are interested in developing ideas for how democratic representation can be strengthened believe that the exercise of power should be proportional to actual voter support see value in Sweden developing forms to represent political dissatisfaction that are not purely symbolic, unlike for example Mickey Mouse (which is an excellent symbolic gesture) Meritorious qualifications mean that it is an advantage if you meet the following criteria, but they are not mandatory to be considered for the position. Not recommended to apply: Professional politicians (O returns the power from the political elite to the people, where it rightfully belongs.) Personal qualities O places great emphasis on personal suitability. O is seeking people with a strong sense of justice, good judgment, and the ability to stand firm in their convictions even under pressure. The mandate requires integrity, perseverance, and the ability to handle public scrutiny. About the candidate position Becoming an O candidate does not provide any guarantee of becoming a member of parliament. It is the voters and the election result that decide. As a candidate, however, you have the opportunity to influence the outcome by actively participating in campaign work and helping more voters learn about O. All candidates become members of O and sign an agreement to follow the mandate that O's voters have given the party if they are elected to parliament. About the position as O member of parliament Position: Member of Parliament. Employer: The People. Recruitment process: O. Final selection: The eligible voters. If O receives mandates, the position of O member of parliament is a full-time position with placement in the Swedish Parliament in Stockholm. Take office occurs after the election if O is awarded mandates. Travel may occur within the scope of the assignment. Compensation is provided according to the rules applicable to members of parliament. Any membership fees or internal fees are decided collectively by O's members after the election. The salary will be between a minimum of: 34,470 SEK (90 percent of the median salary in Sweden – salary requirement for work permit as of June 1, 2026) and a maximum of: 81,400 SEK (the full parliamentary compensation according to parliament's decision, January 1, 2026) minus any membership fees and internal fees decided by O's members. Practical information Applications are accepted from the publication date through September 5. O welcomes applicants with various experiences and backgrounds. Submit your application electronically to: [email protected] Your application should include: a brief biography and CV your motivation in no more than 500 words in Swedish or English For more information on how "no" is systematically erased from the electoral system, you can read in Swedish here: https://orepresenterad.se/O_WhitePaper_SV_July.pdf O welcomes calls from those interested in the position, but declines those selling advertisements and recruitment services.
