Operations Engineer for our BECCS Project

About Stockholm ExergiWe are the energy company for Stockholm residents, and with resource-efficient solutions, we ensure the growing Stockholm region's access to heating, electricity, cooling, and waste management services. We heat over 800,000 Stockholm residents, and our 300-mile-long district heating network is the hub for the public benefits we create together with our customers and partners. We are owned by the City of Stockholm and Ankhiale, a consortium of leading European pension funds (APG, PGGM, Alecta, Keva, and AXA IM Alts), and have over 800 employees who work every day to reduce Stockholm residents' climate impact. About Our Facility for Carbon Capture at VärtaAt Värtaverket, where our combined heat and power plant already produces sustainable electricity and heat from waste products such as wood chips, branches, and tree tops from the forestry industry, we are now building a full-scale carbon capture facility to create even more climate benefit. Bio-CCS is a technology that captures biogenic carbon dioxide before it reaches the atmosphere, where it is then permanently stored underground, creating negative emissions because the carbon dioxide is separated from the biogenic cycle. Permanent negative emissions are the tool that can be used to counteract emissions that are difficult or impossible to eliminate. It is a necessary piece of the puzzle to achieve climate goals and net-zero emissions. The facility will be able to capture up to 800,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year – more than all of Stockholm's road traffic emits during the same period. What Can We Offer You? We are a dedicated team that is already making a real difference – and now we want to expand. With us, you get to be part of shaping the future together with colleagues driven by collaboration, responsibility, and development. As an operations engineer for our BECCS project, you will have a key role in the commissioning organization. You will enter the project early and be part of building structures, developing working methods, and creating the documentation that will be crucial for the project to succeed. This is a role for someone who wants to be involved from the start and set the framework for how something large and important will function in practice. As commissioning approaches, you will work closely with the production team and other parts of the organization to ensure a safe, efficient, and well-coordinated startup. Your contribution will not only make the BECCS project successful – the knowledge and experience you build here will also be valuable for both you and Stockholm Exergi in future projects. For most of the project duration, you will work day shift. As the facility approaches startup, the role transitions to shift work, where you also take on responsibility as an operator. In that part of the role, you will work with operation and optimization of the facility as well as monitoring and control of processes from our central control room. This is a permanent position. Working Hours: Working hours are initially scheduled during the day and will transition to shift work later. Location: Värtaverket. Why Work With Me? I value inclusive leadership where everyone feels seen. I promote an environment that encourages curiosity and responsibility. I provide constructive feedback and celebrate successes. My leadership style balances efficiency with sustainability and helps the team prioritize correctly. Ebrahim Raoufi, Chief of Operations & Maintenance Who Are You as a Person? Postdoctoral Researcher in Computational Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics comprises approximately 120 researchers, teachers, and administrative staff and is organized into three main divisions: Mathematics, Mathematical Statistics, and Computational Mathematics. All divisions contribute to education at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels while conducting active research. The Department is located in the Albano area in Stockholm and offers modern facilities and a well-equipped library for both students and researchers. Within the Department, the Division of Computational Mathematics focuses on mathematical modeling and development of computational methods for studying complex systems across multiple scales—from molecular structures to climate dynamics. The research encompasses areas such as program logic and proof theory, computational biology, numerical analysis of partial differential equations (including ice and ocean dynamics), computational statistics and machine learning, as well as algorithm design and discrete mathematics such as combinatorics and optimization. More information about us can be found at: Department of Mathematics. Project Description We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to improve and analyze time-stepping methods for simulating the dynamics of glaciers and ice sheets. The background is the need for more reliable predictions of how ice sheets and glaciers respond to a changing climate. The project builds upon a stabilization method that makes it possible to use much longer time steps than previously. Due to the stabilization, the time step is now limited by accuracy rather than numerical stability, but there is still a lack of rigorous understanding of how accuracy depends on the length of the time step, which varies significantly during a simulation. The project's goals are to deepen the theoretical understanding of the stabilized scheme and to translate this understanding into a practical, adaptive algorithm that automatically selects the largest time step that maintains the desired accuracy. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to influence the research direction and contribute both methodologically and computationally. Responsibilities The postdoctoral researcher is expected to further develop theory for convergence of the stabilized time-stepping scheme, work that involves analysis of a free boundary value problem coupled to the Stokes equations. Based on this theory, the postdoctoral researcher will construct an adaptive algorithm, implement and test the methods in the established ice modeling tool Elmer/Ice, and conduct numerical experiments with applications to, for example, Ryder Glacier in northern Greenland. The responsibilities also include collaborating with researchers in glaciology, writing scientific articles, and presenting results at international conferences. Qualification Requirements To be eligible for employment as a postdoctoral researcher, a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a relevant doctoral degree is required. The degree must be completed by the time the employment decision is made. Evaluation Criteria It is meritorious if the doctoral degree or equivalent was completed no more than three years before the final application deadline. If there are special circumstances, an earlier completed degree may also be considered meritorious. Special circumstances refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, positions of trust within labor organizations, military service, or other similar circumstances, as well as clinical work or work/assignments relevant to the field of study. Applicants must hold a foreign doctoral degree, that is, a doctoral degree completed at an institution outside Sweden, or a degree deemed equivalent to this. Applicants should have a strong background in numerical analysis or computational science and experience with time-stepping methods and the finite element method (FEM), preferably with applications in fluid dynamics, mechanics, or other moving boundary value problems. Previous experience with geoscience applications is meritorious but not required—subject-specific knowledge can be acquired within the group. Good communication skills and interest in interdisciplinary collaboration, for example with geophysics and glaciology, are highly valued. In the appointment, particular emphasis will be placed on scientific proficiency and the relevance of the applicant's scientific background. About the Employment The employment is full-time and is valid until further notice, but for a minimum of two years and a maximum of three years, with the possibility of extension if there are special circumstances. Start date by agreement. We Offer With us, you get the dynamics of the interaction between higher education and research that makes Stockholm University an exciting and creative environment. You work in an international environment and receive favorable terms. The University is located in the National City Park with good connections to the city center. Stockholm University is committed to being a workplace free from discrimination and providing equal rights and opportunities for all. Contact Information about the employment is provided by Josefin Ahlkrona, [email protected]. Application You apply for the position via Stockholm University's recruitment system. Attach a personal letter and CV along with any attachments requested in the application form. As an applicant, you are responsible for ensuring that your application is complete and submitted to the University by the final application deadline. Instructions for applicants can be found on the webpage: how to apply for a position. PhD Student in Sociological Demography

Department of Sociology Founded in 1954, the Department of Sociology offers a dynamic research environment with many interdisciplinary collaborations and a strong international research profile. English-language master's and doctoral programs in sociology and demography attract applicants from many parts of the world. Currently, we have master's students, PhD students, and researchers with backgrounds from at least 15 different countries. The Department is particularly competitive in the areas of demography, ethnic relations and migration, gender, family sociology, political sociology, social policy, social networks, and social stratification. The Department is also home to Stockholm University's Demographic Unit (SUDA), an international group of researchers and PhD students working on many different aspects of population dynamics. Demography is one of Stockholm University's leading research areas. More information about us is available at: Department of Sociology. Project Description The dissertation work will be conducted within the framework of the ERC-funded project "Social Inequalities in Bereavement: From Demographic Rates to Lived Experience (DEM-LOSS)," led by Professor Isaac Sasson. The loss of family members is a universal human experience that profoundly affects social and psychological well-being. Declining mortality in high-income countries has made this experience more predictable across the life course, but there is considerable variation between social and socioeconomic groups in when and to what extent individuals lose family members. The DEM-LOSS project aims to establish the demographic and social determinants of this type of loss across the life course, to document social differences within and between countries, and to understand how this in turn shapes how individuals feel, think, and act. The study is conducted at multiple sites, including Tel Aviv University and Stockholm University. The study will examine the loss of family members across several social and national contexts, including Sweden, Israel, and other countries. More information about the project is available on the project website. The PhD student will be part of a research group based at Stockholm University and is expected to contribute to one or more research objectives through both independent work and group work. The work consists of formulating research questions, preparing literature reviews, conducting data analysis, coding, and writing research articles. Previous training in quantitative research methods is required, as is experience with various demographic data sources (e.g., population registers, administrative registers, survey data). A key responsibility of the PhD student will be to use the Swedish population register to link kinship across multiple generations, in order to investigate the occurrence of family losses across the life course, its underlying demographic factors, and individual consequences. Eligibility Requirements To be admitted to doctoral education, applicants must meet both general and specific eligibility requirements. These requirements must be fulfilled by the final application deadline. You meet the general eligibility requirement if you have completed an advanced degree or completed at least 240 higher education credits (hp), of which at least 60 hp are at the advanced level, or have acquired equivalent knowledge in another way, domestically or internationally. Specific eligibility requirements are described in the general study plan for doctoral education in Sociological Demography. Selection Selection among applicants is made with regard to the ability to benefit from doctoral education. The criteria used to assess this ability are: Documented knowledge in one or more of the following areas: kinship demography, mortality inequalities, social stratification, and life course theory. Strong background in demographic and/or statistical research methods and willingness to undergo further methodological training. Experience working with (preferably Swedish) population registers and survey data. Alignment between the research plan and the DEM-LOSS project. Ability to work both independently and as part of a research team. Written and oral proficiency in English. The assessment will be based on previous coursework and grades, references, relevant experience, interviews, the candidate's written motivation for applying for the position, and the quality (i.e., originality and feasibility) of the doctoral dissertation research plan. Applicants will need to submit a preliminary research plan in the application system, maximum 1,000 words (excluding references). The plan should focus on research topics related to the DEM-LOSS project (e.g., kinship demography, mortality inequalities, family heterogeneity, and social mobility). Admission procedures for doctoral education at Stockholm University. About the Position We offer a fixed-term position as a PhD student according to Chapter 5 of the Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100). The employment period may not exceed what corresponds to full-time doctoral education for four years. As a PhD student, you will primarily engage in your own doctoral education, but the position may include work in teaching, research, and administration to a limited extent (maximum 20%). A new position as a PhD student applies for a maximum of one year, after which the employment is renewed for a maximum of two years at a time. Stockholm University is committed to being a workplace free from discrimination and providing equal rights and opportunities for all. Contact Additional information is provided by Prof. Isaac Sasson, [email protected]. Application You apply for the PhD student position through Stockholm University's recruitment system. Maintenance Engineer - Mechanical

About Stockholm ExergiWe are Stockholm's energy company, and through resource-efficient solutions, we secure the growing Stockholm region's access to heating, electricity, cooling, and waste management services.
