The studies involve processing existing data and collecting new measurement data in the coastal zone to understand the impact, particularly from atmospheric gradients of moisture and temperature, on radar wave propagation with a main focus on so-called ducts. Complementary oceanographic measurements of waves and water temperature as well as high-frequency turbulence measurements in the atmosphere will also be used to evaluate the description of the near-surface layers in coupled atmospheric models that affect radar wave propagation. Job tasks include collection of meteorological measurements using existing systems for moisture gradient measurements at the Östergarnsholm measurement station and use of new technology such as UAVs, as well as modeling of relevant meteorological coastal processes and phenomena. By combining research, environmental monitoring, and management, the project contributes to the development of a more integrated and socially relevant ocean observing system for Swedish marine areas. Work Tasks Your research will focus on how marine observation and monitoring data can be integrated to support national and international environmental reporting, with particular emphasis on the EU and, for example, the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD). The work includes mapping and analysis of scientific literature, marine observation systems, monitoring programs, and international frameworks such as Global Ocean Observing Systems Essential Ocean Variables (EOVs). Your research will explore how different types of observation variables can be combined to better understand the ocean's condition, changes, and resilience from a social-ecological perspective. You will also contribute to the development of a support tool for integrated ocean observations that will help researchers, authorities, and other stakeholders identify which variables need to be observed for different knowledge and reporting needs. The work is conducted in close collaboration with the project's research and government partners and includes data analysis, scientific publishing, presentation of results at national and international conferences, and participation in the project's interdisciplinary activities. Qualification Requirements You are eligible for doctoral level education if you have completed a degree at the advanced level in environmental science, marine biology/ecology, sustainable development, oceanography, or social-ecological systems completed at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at the advanced level including an independent project of at least 15 higher education credits, or acquired in some other way substantially equivalent knowledge. Very good communication skills in English, both spoken and written, are required. Desirable/Meriting Qualifications Knowledge of or experience with issues related to ocean observations, environmental monitoring, coastal zone management, and marine management is particularly meriting. Practical experience with fieldwork in the Baltic Sea, interview methodology, and leading workshops is advantageous. Experience working with interdisciplinary approaches and using conceptual and analytical frameworks is also valuable. Building databases and good ability to use various data systems related to ocean observations is meriting. Knowledge of statistics and analytical skills, as well as documented creativity and ability to collaborate both within and outside academia, are meriting. Knowledge of Swedish is meriting. A driver's license and experience with boat operation are desirable. Professor in Pulmonary Medicine Combined with Specialist Physician Position
Uppsala University, Department of Medical Sciences Description of the Subject Area The disease panorama in pulmonary medicine spans several major public health conditions such as asthma, sleep apnea, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), allergic airway diseases, and lung cancer. Within these areas, the research group conducts clinical and epidemiological studies. In collaboration with preclinical research groups, the group also participates in several translational projects. Duties The duties include research, teaching, clinical service, and administration. Teaching includes course responsibility, course administration, and supervision of doctoral students. The holder also has a responsibility to follow developments in their own field. The appointee is expected to lead an active research group and to initiate and conduct research projects. The appointee is also expected to have the ability to competitively obtain external research funding. The position also includes clinical work as a specialist physician in pulmonary medicine at Uppsala University Hospital, which entails close coordination between research, education, and clinical activity. Qualification Requirements To be eligible for appointment as professor, one must have demonstrated both scientific and pedagogical skill (Chapter 4, Section 3, HF). According to Section 5 of Uppsala University's Employment Regulations (AO), the general qualification requirement for teachers is that the applicant must have the ability to cooperate and otherwise meet the requirements of suitability needed to perform the duties well. Scientific skill must be demonstrated through independent research contributions and through merits that are of very high quality from an international perspective. Pedagogical skill must be demonstrated through extensive merits in teaching in accordance with Section 22 AO. Clinical skill is also important for the position and will be given weight. Scientific skill refers to research merits. In assessing scientific skill, scientific quality will be primarily considered. The scope of research, particularly regarding depth and breadth, will also be given importance. Furthermore, the ability to plan, initiate, lead, and develop research and education at the research level, the ability to competitively obtain research funding, and the ability to cooperate with society through research will be given importance (Section 20 AO). Clinical skill is demonstrated through clinical work and clinical education as well as participation in clinical development work. Selection Criteria, Other Skills Administrative skill and leadership skill are important for the position and will be given weight. The ability to cooperate with society as well as to communicate about research and development work will be considered.
