Work as a Homework Helper in Uppsala!

Want to make a difference? 19,700 students did not complete primary school in Sweden during the 2024/2025 school year. There are schools where 7 out of 10 students do not meet upper secondary school eligibility requirements. At the nonprofit Stiftelsen Läxhjälpen, you contribute your skills and commitment to help more students achieve eligibility requirements with confidence in their future. We are now recruiting new homework helpers in Uppsala! We are looking for someone interested in a paid part-time job while also making a concrete societal contribution. The position is an hourly contract for afternoons/evenings and involves being a homework helper after school at one of our partner schools. You work as part of a team of three homework helpers, all of whom are university students. You will receive training in and work according to our structured approach. Each homework help group consists of 15 students, and together with your colleagues, you are responsible for planning, implementing, and following up on the work. As a homework helper, you can either work as a regular homework helper or as a substitute. As a regular homework helper, you work 6 hours per week spread across two scheduled afternoons/evenings (opportunities for extra substitution shifts are available). As a substitute, you work when regular homework helpers are on leave or sick. The work is performed after school in the school's facilities. We are looking for someone who: - Is a university or college student - Has pedagogical ability and can communicate and build relationships with children and young people. - Is solution-oriented, takes initiative, and can work according to our structured approach and method. - Has broad fundamental subject competence and good study techniques. - Shares Stiftelsen Läxhjälpen's values and vision of a society where all children grow up with the conditions to succeed in school and shape their own future. Since the job involves working with children, we place great emphasis on personal suitability. Providing an extract from the police criminal record for the employer is a legal requirement for working with children and young people. Differences between schools, where you live, where you come from, and what your parents do increasingly determine how likely you are to succeed in school. Stiftelsen Läxhjälpen is a nonprofit foundation that operates where it is needed most. Homework help is free for students, and homework helpers' salaries are financed through support from the business sector and public sector. Homework help is a concrete measure that addresses one of Sweden's biggest problems today—more and more young people are not succeeding in school and risk being excluded from society. Carefully selected, paid university students help young people with their studies two evenings a week and are also positive role models and mentors. Since our start in 2007, we have developed a structured approach and a clear goal—to improve grades and help students advance to upper secondary school. We are currently present at over 90 schools in, among others, Stockholm, Södertälje, Västerås, Norrköping, Gothenburg, Landskrona, Umeå, Sundsvall, Uppsala, Gävle, and Malmö. Postdoctoral Researcher in Materials Physics

Would you like to work with neutron scattering methods, supported by competent and friendly colleagues in an international environment? Would you like an employer that invests in sustainable employee relations and offers secure, favorable working conditions? We welcome you to apply for a postdoctoral position at Uppsala University in a project involving the ISIS neutron and muon source and the European Spallation Source. Read more about the department here: uu.se/fysik. The work in the research group now recruiting within the Materials Physics Division is conducted in collaboration with two major facilities: ISIS and ESS. ISIS Neutron and Muon Source Facility, in the United Kingdom, is a world-leading center for scientific research. It houses more than 30 instruments for exploring materials down to the atomic scale, and the facility serves as a base for over 3,000 researchers in areas such as energy, environment, medicine, and health. The research also includes nanoscience, catalysis and polymers, as well as fundamental studies of material properties. https://www.isis.stfc.ac.uk/. ESS (European Spallation Source) is a European research center under construction in Lund, Sweden, with 13 member countries. The facility includes the most powerful linear accelerator ever built, 15 top-class neutron instruments, and a supercomputing center for data handling and software. ESS has approximately 600 employees and will open to users in 2027, following the release of the first neutrons in 2025. https://www.ess.eu/ Duties This postdoctoral researcher will be employed in the Materials Physics Division at the Department of Physics and Astronomy and will be part of a group working with neutron scattering methods. The position is based in Uppsala with extended stays at the ISIS neutron and muon source near Oxford (United Kingdom) and the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund (Sweden). Both ISIS and ESS are at the forefront of neutron science, combining decades of excellence with the development of next-generation neutron sources and instrumentation. ISIS is a globally leading interdisciplinary institution where curiosity-driven research meets applied science and engineering, while ESS – currently preparing for operation – will be the world's most powerful neutron source, built as a partnership between 13 European countries. The projects offer a unique opportunity to work in collaborative international environments alongside world-leading researchers, engineers, and technicians, and to contribute to groundbreaking instrumentation and scientific discoveries with broad impact on society, technology, and science. The current postdoctoral researcher will use "Spin-Echo Modulated Small-Angle Neutron Scattering" (SEMSANS) to extend available length scales beyond conventional small-angle scattering (SANS) and to obtain spatially resolved scattering signals using dark-field imaging. SEMSANS uses polarized neutrons to encode small scattering angles without the need for a well-collimated neutron beam, measures autocorrelation functions over mesoscopic length scales, and investigates structural properties ranging from the micrometer to the nanometer range. The method is based on modulation of the neutron beam's polarization using a pair of magnetic Wollaston prisms – superconducting triangular field regions – placed upstream of the sample. The postdoctoral researcher will work on the design and implementation of the Wollaston prisms and a "spin exchange optically pumped" (SEOP) neutron spin analyzer. Both will be developed at a test instrument at ISIS. Once the new features are implemented, they will be utilized on the Larmor and IMAT instruments at ISIS. When ESS becomes available with its new long neutron pulses, the method will be integrated and used on the imaging instrument ODIN and the SANS instrument SKADI, both at ESS. This will enable unique studies of vortex lattices in intermediate mixed superconductors, characterization of vesicles in model cell systems, and resolution of hierarchical cellulose microstructures in collaboration with project partners. Qualifications A doctoral degree in physics, materials science, or a related scientific field is required, with the following qualifications: Strong documented interest in materials science. Understanding of scattering techniques. Experience with instrumentation and experimental work conducted at photon or neutron facilities or similar. Skills in using Python for data processing and evaluation. Excellent communication skills in English (written and oral) are required. Non-Swedish-speaking candidates are encouraged to learn Swedish during employment. Documented experience presenting scientific results both orally and in writing. Publications in relevant subject areas in internationally recognized scientific journals. The ability and willingness to travel internationally and work abroad for an extended period is mandatory for this position. Desirable/Meriting Qualifications Experience with small-angle scattering, imaging, polarized neutrons, and spin manipulation techniques such as neutron spin echo methods or other advanced scattering techniques, such as coherent diffractive imaging and phase-contrast imaging. Competence in the development and commissioning of instrumentation. Experience with research in an international environment and scientific project management. Competence in working in interdisciplinary environments. About the Position The position is time-limited for 2 years with the possibility of a 1-year extension according to central collective agreement. The position is full-time. Start date by agreement. Location: Uppsala, Department of Physics and Astronomy. Information about the position is provided by: Max Wolff, +46 18 471 3590, [email protected]. Postdoctoral Researcher in Biomedical Engineering

The Department of Materials Science aims to be an environment for successful and valuable research and education focused on materials science solutions for important societal challenges. About the Division The Division of Biomedical Engineering is part of the Department of Materials Science at the Ångström Laboratory. We conduct fundamental research in the development and evaluation of new materials in interaction with biological systems to understand the underlying principles. For us, it is equally important to study the effects of materials on biological processes as it is to study the effects of biological processes on materials. Our ambition is to create a dynamic teaching and research environment that is internationally recognized for its excellent ability to combine fundamental research with clinical applications. The position is located at the Division of Biomedical Engineering in the interdisciplinary research group EMBLA, led by Professor Maria Tenje. The group conducts successful and internationally recognized research in organs-on-chip and droplet-based microfluidics in collaboration with research teams at several Swedish and international universities. Research funding has been obtained through several prestigious grants, including from the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation and the European Research Council (ERC). Project Description Organs-on-chip is a growing research field with the ambition to eventually replace traditional animal testing. A particular focus for our research group is to use integrated acoustics to manipulate and study cells in three-dimensional culture environments that mimic the body's tissues.
