Common work tasks for you as a personal assistant As a personal assistant, you work closely with the user and provide support in various life situations. The user requires life-sustaining services due to his tracheostomy. To work with the user, you must be trained in tracheostomy care and receive delegation from the National Respiratory Center (NRC). We will provide you with that training. Since the user does not have verbal speech, you need to be able to support and help him communicate with the world around him. The user has an eye-tracking computer that he communicates through, but may need help communicating via a spelling board when he doesn't have access to the computer. The user has a catheter and is fed through a tube. The user needs your help emptying the catheter bag and connecting the tube feeding to the pump. The user also has type 2 diabetes and is treated with insulin. You therefore need to be able to help him administer insulin by injection. The work also includes support with personal hygiene and housework at home. The user is mobilized with a wheelchair and ceiling lift. You therefore need to help him with transfers. As a personal assistant, it is part of your role to document how the assistance has worked and to participate in work on implementation plans and procedures so that the user receives support in the way he wants and has decided.
