Elementary School Director with Focus on Results and Equity
Your Responsibilities In this role, you will be the immediate supervisor of ten people – a well-structured group consisting of five specialized staff members and five managers, four of whom are area directors. You will lead and develop the department through close, trust-based and strategic collaboration with your area directors, who in turn lead and support our principals. Together, approximately 120 managers and about 2,800 staff members work for our students, who currently number around 16,200. Your assignment involves translating national reforms and political objectives into concrete, successful school development in the classrooms. A particular focus lies on accelerating work to raise academic results and increase equity between our schools. You are expected to lead at a high pace in change management, analyze the effects of our initiatives, and navigate based on changing demographic and economic conditions. Your main responsibilities: Strategic leadership and governance: Lead, unite, and develop the elementary school department's organization toward set goals. Results and follow-up: Drive systematic quality work with a strong focus on demonstrating and raising the impact of our pedagogical and financial investments. Create stable conditions and work peace for principals and teachers by prioritizing, protecting the core mission, and balancing demands and expectations. Labor cooperation: Cooperate with and maintain constructive dialogue with labor unions. Media and national focus: Represent elementary schools in media contexts and actively promote Linköping schools on the national stage through networks and collaboration. Your Workplace Because our current elementary school director, after 10 years in the role, is now rounding out their working life and retiring, it is time to hand over to the next person who wants to take on this important assignment. Your assignment spans the entire municipality's geographic area and includes approximately 70 operations within the elementary school department. The elementary school department is characterized by a self-driven, positive, and professional group of area directors and principals who value participation and strong shared ownership of school development issues. We offer a workplace at the center of events where you receive qualified administrative support. Here you encounter complex but deeply stimulating challenges in an organization that dares to think in new ways and where we together make a difference for every student, every day. During the school year 2026/2027, our current elementary school director will remain in the organization but in the role of experienced advisor and will become a natural mentor in the assignment for you when you join us. About You Pedagogical university education with a degree as an elementary school teacher or leisure activities teacher, or alternative education that the employer deems equivalent. Experience working as a principal within elementary school. Experience in a management role with personnel, financial, and operational responsibility. Solid knowledge of elementary school's national steering documents, school law, and ongoing reforms. And you have very good ability to express yourself orally and in writing in Swedish, as the assignment involves extensive reporting to politicians and boards as well as external communication. We consider it meritorious if you also have experience leading other managers. And experience of successfully driving digitalization, AI applications, and system development within school operations. We would like to see that you have good experience with media management and understanding of the modern media landscape and the impact of social media. To succeed and have legitimacy in this highly strategic role, you need to have a stable foundation in the profession and extensive experience with the school's internal work. You need to have good self-distance, thrive in interpersonal encounters, and possess personal confidence that allows you to stand firm even during periods of high change pace and complex situations. You are confident in your leadership with a clear perspective on the whole, which is an absolute prerequisite because you operate in a large, politically governed organization where your decisions directly affect 68 schools with entirely different needs. You understand your role in the municipal governance chain and have a pronounced ability to place the elementary school's assignment in a larger context – you consider the entire education administration's and Linköping municipality's best interests in both actions and decisions. This means you can translate complex societal issues, demographic changes, and political directives into strategic priorities that create long-term value and increased equity for all students in Linköping. With very good judgment, you make well-considered assessments before decisions, balance local interests against the administration's overall goals, and handle difficult trade-offs with high personal integrity and professionalism. Because elementary schools face major demographic changes, economic transitions, and intensive national reforms, it is crucial that you are very flexible and change-oriented. You have the ability to quickly adapt your leadership and strategies to changed circumstances and can shift perspectives when conditions require it. You have good judgment, make well-considered assessments even in pressured situations, and handle difficult issues with high integrity and professionalism. You are a confident and stable leader who builds trust and engagement, while daring to make decisions. Your problem-solving analytical ability allows you to quickly identify patterns and propose sustainable solutions. You work in a structured manner, take initiative, and drive processes toward goals with focus on operational needs. Service Manager for Digital Devices - Växjö Municipality
No two days are alike here at Växjö Municipality. Sometimes we take care of the small things and sometimes the really big ones. Either way, it means a workday that truly makes a difference. We are over 7,000 employees working together to create a good day, every day. With us, you get the opportunity to make a difference while growing and developing. There is a wide range of professions and career opportunities here, and what they all have in common is that they build and create our future Växjö. Do you want to share our workday? Work for a good day. Every day. 1 position(s). JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Computers, tablets, meeting rooms, and printing solutions may be things many take for granted in their workday. However, there is extensive work behind them—from technology selection, logistics, and suppliers to contracts, procurement, and long-term planning. We are now looking for a Service Manager for Digital Devices, AV, and Print who wants to help develop the digital workplace for the Växjö Municipality Group. You will be part of Service Management and work with our group-wide IT services. Your main focus will be Digital Devices, where you and a colleague will be responsible for services related to computers, tablets, and peripherals. Your area of responsibility also includes AV and meeting technology as well as Print. The role is broad and sits at the intersection of business, technology, and suppliers. You need to understand technology and find it interesting, but you should not be the leading technical specialist. Rather, your task is to see the big picture and ensure that services function, develop, and meet business needs, both today and in the future. An important part of the work involves logistics, ordering processes, workflows, and lifecycle management. You also work closely with the municipality's suppliers and follow up on contracts, deliveries, quality, and costs. In this role, you will, among other things: • Manage and develop services within Digital Devices, AV and meeting technology, and Print • Work with the full lifecycle of services—from needs and planning to implementation, development, and discontinuation • Develop and monitor logistics and ordering workflows for digital devices • Be an important link between operations, IT technical specialists, and external suppliers • Gather operational needs and translate them into requirements and long-term solutions • Follow up on suppliers, contracts, delivery quality, and costs • Participate in and drive development initiatives within your service areas • Work with planning, standardization, and lifecycle management of the municipality's digital workplace • Develop decision-making materials and contribute to long-term strategic choices A significant part of the role also involves procurement and supplier management. In upcoming procurements, you work with the municipality's procurement specialists and lead the work from an IT perspective. Looking ahead, several major initiatives await in this area. This means you are coming into a role where you have the opportunity to influence how parts of Växjö Municipality's digital workplace will look in the years to come. QUALIFICATIONS We are looking for someone who thrives in a role where technology, people, business acumen, and structure come together. You do not need to be an IT specialist, but you have a genuine interest in technology and enjoy familiarizing yourself with, for example, computers, peripherals, and other hardware. At the same time, you can step back from the technology and see operational needs and the bigger picture. You can dialogue with technical specialists and understand their perspective, but also explain technology in an understandable way to the operations team. You are attentive and can balance different needs and perspectives into solutions that work in practice. Your background could be in, for example, service management, project management, IT, procurement, logistics, or supplier management. Relevant post-secondary education is a plus, but we value relevant experience and the right competencies at least as highly. We would particularly like to see experience in some of the following areas: • Service ownership, management, product ownership, or project management • Supplier management and contract monitoring • Requirements definition and coordination between different stakeholders • Procurement, logistics, or ordering workflows • Digital workplaces, client hardware, or peripherals • Driving projects or change initiatives from needs to implementation Experience with public procurement and the Public Procurement Act (LOU), especially within IT or digitalization, is a merit. Experience with ITIL or IT Service Management is also a plus. If you have worked with AV and meeting technology or Print and document management solutions, that is an extra advantage. Who are you? To succeed in this role, we believe you are open, social, and unpretentious. You enjoy collaborating, sharing knowledge, and are organized in your work. You have the ability to keep complex matters with many stakeholders on track and drive work forward while listening to operations, technicians, and suppliers. You are communicative and can explain technical issues in a simple way, while your interest in technology allows you to have a good dialogue with specialists. Above all, you enjoy creating structure, getting people to work toward the same goals, and translating needs into solutions that work in practice. Employment form: Permanent employment. Duration: Permanent. Växjö Municipality strives to reflect the society around us and therefore welcomes applicants from all parts of society who can contribute to broad diversity in the organization. Does this sound like a role for you? We look forward to your application! Selection is ongoing, so please send in your application as soon as possible. The recruitment is conducted by Chefspoolen on behalf of Växjö Municipality. All questions regarding the position are therefore handled by us. If you have questions, you are warmly welcome to contact Pontus Lindekrantz at [email protected]. Do you recognize yourself in parts of the role but not everything? Do not hesitate to reach out anyway—we are happy to tell you more. Växjö Municipality offers an attractive workplace that is free from discrimination and provides equal opportunities for all. As a permanent employee, you will as a rule be employed within our organization. Applications are only accepted through the Public Jobs recruitment tool (www.offentligajobb.se).
