About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating existing ones, and expanding, and we are now seeking more staff members. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the cycle of crime. If we succeed, society becomes safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation services, detention facilities, and prisoner transport. Halmstad Institution is a closed facility in the second-highest security class. The institution has 160 employees, most of whom are correctional officers. The institution is located five kilometers west of the city center, just next to Flygstaden's commercial area in Halmstad. The distance to Halmstad city center is approximately 10-15 minutes by bus or bicycle. A detention facility is currently being built on the institution's premises, with a planned opening in spring/summer 2027.
