About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating existing ones, and expanding, and we are now seeking more staff members. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation services, detention facilities, and prisoner transport. Halmstad Institution is a closed facility in the second-highest security class. The institution has 160 employees, most of whom are correctional officers. The institution is located five kilometers west of the city center, just next to Flygstaden's commercial area in Halmstad. The distance to Halmstad city center is approximately 10-15 minutes by bus or bicycle. A detention facility is currently being built on the institution's premises, with a planned opening in spring/summer 2027. The capacity increase will result in a doubling of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's operations in Halmstad. Job Responsibilities As duty officer, you will be responsible for security at the facility in consultation with the correctional inspector. The duty officer shall operatively lead and distribute daily work and is, outside office hours, the highest operative decision-maker under the prison director during on-call duty. The duty officer represents the employer and is a guarantor that the chain of command is maintained all the way to all staff. The duty officer is responsible for operatively leading and distributing daily tasks, including transports and staff scheduling. The work is varied and often maintains a high pace. As duty officer, you anchor decisions made, communicate clearly and directly, and contribute to a safe and efficient work environment. The role also includes supporting and leading staff in a positive and developmental manner. The position involves work at both the institution and the detention facility. Qualifications As duty officer, you have a clear leadership role and are expected to be responsible and proactive in your work. We are therefore looking for someone who is confident, stable, and has good self-awareness. You adapt your leadership style and work distribution based on the recipient's circumstances. In your professional practice, you have good judgment and integrity. You also have a personal maturity that allows you to adapt your conduct to different situations. You shall have good collaboration skills and a high security mindset. Personal qualities we value include the ability to work in a methodical and rational manner with maintained security awareness under stress or high workload, as well as clear communication. You must also have the physical ability to act when the situation requires.
