Assistant Professor in Control Systems with Focus on Cyber-Physical Systems
Lund University was founded in 1666 and is consistently ranked among the world's leading universities. It has around 46,000 students and 8,500 employees in Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö. We are united in our endeavor to understand, explain, and improve our world and people's conditions. The Department of Automatic Control at LTH, Lund University, is recruiting an assistant professor. We are seeking candidates for a position as assistant professor in control systems with a focus on cyber-physical systems. Control systems, cyber-physical systems, and embedded real-time systems are central to the analysis, design, and operation of modern technical systems. These areas combine fundamental theory with methods for implementation, integration, and validation of control and decision algorithms in real-world environments. They play a key role in technology areas where computational and physical processes interact closely, including autonomous vehicles, robotics, industrial automation, smart infrastructure, and interconnected sensor and actuator systems. As society and technology evolve toward increasingly autonomous, distributed, and software-intensive systems, the need for reliable, resource-efficient, secure, and scalable solutions becomes ever more important, both in research and education. At the Department of Automatic Control at LTH, research and teaching are conducted in an international environment with around 60 employees, including doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers, and faculty members with broad subject expertise. The department has a strong tradition in systems and control theory, including cyber-physical systems, embedded and network-based control systems, robotics, and intelligent autonomous systems. The work environment is characterized by an open and ambitious atmosphere, with collaborations both within academia and with industrial partners, nationally and internationally. Lund University and the Department of Automatic Control welcome applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We view equality and diversity as strengths and assets. The department currently has three female professors, including a Lise Meitner professor, as well as one female assistant professor. Of our 15 faculty members, five have international backgrounds. Diversity, equality, and inclusion are important to us. We are now seeking an outstanding early-career researcher for a position as assistant professor in control systems with a focus on cyber-physical systems. We particularly welcome candidates whose research combines control systems with areas such as embedded and real-time-critical systems, distributed and network-based systems, robotics and mechatronics, Internet of Things (IoT), cloud and edge-based computing infrastructures, or implementation of control systems in industrially relevant applications. The research may, for example, concern implementation of control systems in resource-constrained environments, real-time and embedded control architectures, network-based and distributed control, sensor and actuator systems, or software and hardware integration for autonomous and cyber-physical systems. The position involves conducting research of high international quality, developing an independent research profile, contributing to the acquisition of external research funding, and teaching and supervising students at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels in control systems and computer science, including cyber-physical systems, embedded and real-time-critical systems, and related areas. A central part of the position is to contribute to teaching that combines theory and practice through the development of an experimentally oriented learning environment. PhD Student in Medical Science
Would you like to work with clinical research, supported by competent and pleasant colleagues in an international environment? Would you like an employer that invests in sustainable employee partnerships and offers secure, favorable working conditions? Welcome to apply for a position as a PhD student in Medical Science at Uppsala University. The Department of Medical Sciences is a large clinical department with approximately 250 employees and over 900 individuals affiliated through Akademiska Hospital. The department has a broad research profile with strong research groups in various areas. Research is conducted in close connection with clinical operations at Akademiska Hospital and includes both basic studies on disease causes as well as development and evaluation of improved diagnostics and new treatment methods. More about the department's activities can be found at https://www.uu.se/institution/medicinska-vetenskaper/ The position is placed in the Clinical Chemistry research group, which consists of several independent researchers with projects in laboratory diagnostics and related areas. Within the group, extracellular vesicles as biomarkers constitute a separate research line, with studies in hemostasis, vascular disease, and inflammation. The current project is conducted in collaboration with clinical and preclinical researchers at the Karolinska Institute, Danderyd Hospital, and Livio Fertility Center. Duties Assisted reproduction (IVF) is associated with an increased risk of blood clots during early pregnancy, but the mechanisms behind this remain unclear and there are no laboratory methods to assess risk in individual patients. Extracellular vesicles (EV) are nano-sized particles released from body cells, carry procoagulant properties, and participate in reproductive signaling. They may therefore be the missing link between reproduction and hemostasis in current understanding. The project examines how EVs change during IVF treatment, their relationship to hemostatic activation and clinical outcomes, and whether they can be used as biomarkers. Analyses are performed using existing longitudinal biobank material and in a prospective cohort. The PhD student will be part of the national research school BioLabX (Biomedical Analysts for Excellence), which educates future teachers and researchers in healthcare and medical science. The work is primarily laboratory-based and builds on immunological methods and high-sensitivity flow cytometry for characterization of extracellular vesicles at the individual vesicle level. The work includes handling of clinical samples from biobank and prospective collection, setup and validation of antibody panels, analytical quality assurance, and integration of EV data with hemostasis measurements and clinical outcome data. The position includes higher education pedagogy training as well as teaching and mentoring of students in biomedical laboratory science programs at Uppsala University, corresponding to a maximum of 20 percent of full-time. Qualification Requirements To be eligible for admission to doctoral level studies, an applicant must have completed an advanced level degree, fulfilled course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 credits at advanced level, or otherwise acquired substantially equivalent knowledge within or outside the country. Applicants are expected to have a 3-year undergraduate degree from biomedical analyst education and a master's degree corresponding to 60 higher education credits at advanced level in a relevant field (biomedical laboratory science, medicine, biomedicine, pharmacy, medical science, or equivalent). We are looking for a motivated candidate with interest in biomedical laboratory science, extracellular vesicles, and hemostasis. Great emphasis will be placed on personal skills such as communication and collaboration abilities. Applicants must have good knowledge of Swedish and English in speech and writing. You are expected to be able to work independently but also collaborate with other group members. The applicant is expected to actively participate in teaching and mentoring of students corresponding to a maximum of 20% of full-time. Applicants should have experience with basic methods in biomedical laboratory science and immunology, as well as sample handling and preanalytical handling of clinical samples. Desirable/Meriting Experience Experience with flow cytometry is meriting, as is work with extracellular vesicles, hemostasis, and coagulation. Experience with clinical studies is meriting, as is documented participation in teaching. Great weight is placed on personal suitability. The application should contain a brief description of research interests and relevant experience, CV, copies of diplomas and identification, and any translations thereof. If available, also submit letters of recommendation or contact information for previous research supervisors. Provisions for PhD students are found in the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 5 §§ 1-7 and in the university's rules and guidelines.
