At Umeå University, everything is close by. Our cohesive campus makes it easy to meet, collaborate, and exchange knowledge, which fosters a dynamic and open culture. Are you interested in learning more? Read more about Umeå University as a workplace. Our department, which conducts research at the highest international level and provides several high-quality education programs, is now seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work on data privacy methods for data-driven models. The position is a full-time appointment for two years with start date January 8, 2027 or by agreement. The Department of Computing Science at Umeå University is an international environment for research and education across a broad spectrum of the computing science field. The department is internationally recognized for excellent research and teaching. Read more at the Department of Computing Science. Project Description and Responsibilities The project will develop privacy-aware models for machine learning (ML). We are interested in data-driven models for complex data, including temporal data. We are interested in both data-driven models and models based on synthetic data. Regarding privacy, we focus on various types of privacy measures and models (differential and integral privacy, k-anonymity), as well as different scenarios (centralized and decentralized data; local and global privacy). For decentralized data, we consider federated learning. We are interested in privacy-preserving machine learning at scale. Research Group The research group Privacy-aware Transparency Decisions, led by Professor Vicenç Torra, conducts research on data privacy for data intended for machine learning and statistical purposes. It is well-known that data can be very sensitive and that naive anonymization is insufficient to prevent disclosure. Models and aggregates can also lead to disclosure because they may contain traces of the data used in the computation. We want to understand the fundamental principles that enable us to build privacy-aware AI systems and develop algorithms for this purpose. For more information, see: umu.se/en/research/groups/nausica-privacy-aware-transparent-decisions-group-/ The postdoctoral position is funded by Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP), Sweden's largest single research program in modern times. A Job That Matters – Every Day

Aleva is seeking engaged people who want to help create care where quality of life, warmth, and excellence are at the center. With us, you get to use both your heart and drive – and take significant personal responsibility in meaningful work. You don't need to know everything from the start. We provide you with a secure introduction through our onboarding program and support you alongside our experienced colleagues, so you can succeed and thrive in your role. Qualifications Swedish Driver's license (Category B) when you start your employment. Scope and Start Date The position is approximately 75-100% and work is scheduled for daytime, evening, and every other weekend. Start date in August by agreement. What You Can Expect From Us Good working hours – no split shifts Personal atmosphere, short decision-making paths, and freedom with responsibility Small teams with close collaboration and present team leaders Generous wellness package Secure terms through collective agreement An opportunity to grow – three out of four leaders at Aleva started as care assistants What Does the Job Involve? The days are varied with great opportunity to contribute to people's quality of life. You provide support, help with practical tasks, and offer service based on customers' needs and wishes. The most important thing is that you enjoy building relationships and are good with people. What Background Do I Need? For some, this might be a great chance to get a first job. For others, it's about having grown tired of their current field and wanting to do something meaningful. For yet others, it could be a desire to continue in care but with a different employer. There's no single answer – we recruit people with a solution-focused mindset, empathetic values, and who want to grow with us. Does it matter if I don't have relevant experience? Of course, we see it as positive if you've worked in healthcare/care and done it well! Education as a nurse assistant or equivalent is also a merit but not a requirement. Isn't working in home care very tough? It certainly can be, and that's how development in healthcare and care generally looks. That was also one of the reasons we started in 2013 – with a conviction that we can do things a little differently and continually improve our operations with a focus on those we exist for – the elderly. And how do you do that? Take care of your employees, of course. That's why it's especially heartwarming that we received 9 out of 10 on pride in working at Aleva and 9.5 out of 10 on whether our customers would recommend us to a friend. About Us Aleva is a growing company with great visions. We want to create the future of care through innovative thinking and a clear focus on living – not just surviving. The company was founded in 2013 and today provides home care in the Umeå area, Holmsund-Obbola, and Nordmaling, as well as personal assistance throughout the country. To fit with us, the most important thing is that you are unpretentious, engaged, and have a genuine desire to work with people. We have a personal atmosphere with short decision-making paths and the opportunity for significant freedom with responsibility. We are an ambitious team with a positive atmosphere working together to deliver world-class care. For more information, visit www.alevaomsorg.se
