Subject Description The subject area for this position is zoo ecology with a focus on plant-animal interactions in temperate and boreal forest ecosystems within the application areas of forestry, wildlife management, and forest damage. The subject develops the knowledge base about animal ecology and their interactions with humans, landscape, and climate. Responsibilities The incumbent shall be responsible for developing research within the field of zoo ecology, generally and specifically within the subject focus area, in collaboration with other researchers in the faculty and university. The incumbent shall also contribute to pedagogical development within the field. This means the incumbent shall: · act in accordance with SLU's vision, goals, and values · contribute to the strategic development of the department, faculty, and SLU · develop and lead an internationally outstanding research environment · integrate zoo ecological research with the application areas of forestry, wildlife management, and forest damage · publish scientific articles in peer-reviewed international journals · seek external research funding at national and international levels · supervise doctoral candidates and mentor postdoctoral researchers · develop, lead, and participate in teaching at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels · collaborate with researchers within the department, faculty, and other parts of SLU, as well as nationally and internationally · engage and further develop networks with the surrounding society regionally, nationally, and internationally · communicate research results · perform administrative tasks within the department, faculty, and university The department operates in a parallel language environment. The incumbent will be able to perform most of their tasks in English. As a government agency, the university has Swedish as its main language according to language law requirements. At SLU, non-Swedish-speaking staff are expected to acquire sufficient Swedish language skills within four years of employment to be able to access information in Swedish. The department will support the incumbent in achieving this. Qualifications Applicants must meet the following qualification requirements: · have completed a doctoral degree in a subject relevant to the position or have equivalent scientific competence · be scientifically skilled within the subject of the position · be pedagogically skilled · have demonstrated leadership ability · have good command of English Evaluation Criteria The degree of competence that is a requirement for eligibility for the position shall be the primary evaluation criterion. When assessing scientific skills, the following shall be considered: · completed research efforts and ongoing research within the subject focus area (plant-animal interaction in temperate and boreal forest ecosystems) · ability to integrate zoo ecological research with the application areas of forestry, wildlife management, and forest damage · expertise in wildlife management and forest damage · future vision for research within the field · ability to independently initiate and conduct outstanding research within the subject · ability to obtain external research funding through competition · ability to supervise and examine doctoral candidates and mentor postdoctoral researchers When assessing pedagogical skills, the ability to: · plan, implement, and evaluate own teaching at all levels · supervise and examine students at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels · communicate and implement one's pedagogical vision · integrate current research and a scientific approach in pedagogical work Further consideration shall be given to: · ability to develop and lead activities and personnel in the academic field · leadership vision · collaboration ability · ability to engage with external stakeholders and the surrounding society · ability to communicate research results and development work The position will be offered to the person who, following a qualitative overall assessment, is deemed to have the best qualifications to perform and develop current responsibilities and contribute to positive development of the activities.
