Position Responsibilities The position involves scientific and pedagogical qualifications, combined with clinical service as a pharmacist, occupational therapist, midwife, biomedical analyst, physiotherapist, speech-language pathologist, pharmacy technician, radiologic technologist, hospital physicist, nurse, specialist physician, resident physician (ST-läkare), resident dentist (ST-tandläkare), dental hygienist, dentist, or dental technician at Region Västerbotten. The position is aimed at early-career researchers and is designed to provide an assistant professor with the opportunity to develop independence as a researcher and gain both scientific and pedagogical qualifications to meet the requirements for promotion to the position of associate professor with combined employment. Depending on your clinical profession and, where applicable, education level, the assistant professor position involves either clinical service of up to 13 hours per week or clinical service amounting to 50 percent of full-time work as a resident physician or resident dentist. At least 80 percent of remaining time, beyond clinical service, shall be devoted to scientific qualifications and the remaining time shall be devoted to pedagogical qualifications. Teaching will be conducted partly through internet-based distance methods. Teaching is conducted in Swedish and English. Administrative tasks may be included. The duty station is Umeå, but work in other locations may occur. Qualification Requirements Applicable to all applicants: To be qualified for employment as an assistant professor, you must have completed a doctoral degree or possess equivalent scientific competence. To be eligible for employment, the applicant must have documented ability to lecture/teach in English. In addition, necessary language skills in Swedish, Danish, or Norwegian are required (as defined by the National Board of Health and Welfare). Since the position is combined with clinical service in a relevant healthcare profession, Swedish licensure and, where applicable, a specialist certificate in the profession are required for employment. For resident physicians and resident dentists: Since the position is combined with specialist training (ST) as a physician or dentist, Swedish medical or dental licensure is required, and for dentists, two years of documented experience in general dentistry practice is also required. For other applicants: Since the position is combined with clinical service in your profession, Swedish licensure as a pharmacist, occupational therapist, midwife, biomedical analyst, physiotherapist, speech-language pathologist, physician, pharmacy technician, radiologic technologist, hospital physicist, nurse, dental hygienist, dentist, or dental technician is required for employment. More About the Position A plan for pedagogical and scientific development will be established in connection with employment. One pedagogical and two scientific mentors will be appointed to support implementation of the plans. Promotion criteria for the position will be determined upon taking office. The position will organizationally belong to a department at the Faculty of Medicine. Department placement will be determined in consultation with you based on where your research fits best; please indicate any preferences for department placement in your application. The position includes a start package with funding equivalent to a doctoral student position, plus operating funds of 100,000 kr per year for six years. For resident physicians and resident dentists: Umeå University is the employer for the assistant professor position combined with specialist training. The clinical service as a resident physician or resident dentist is performed in Region Västerbotten's operations at 50 percent of full-time. The position is full-time and permanent. The assistant professor has the right to, upon request, be considered for promotion to associate professor, which after obtaining a specialist certificate is combined with employment as a specialist physician or dentist. The qualification period for the assistant professor combined with employment as a resident physician or resident dentist is nine years (resident physician), eight years (resident dentist in oral surgery), or six years (other resident dentists) from taking office. An application for promotion must be submitted six months before the qualification period ends. If the assistant professor is not promoted after consideration, the employment is handled in accordance with applicable rules for transition. For those seeking employment combined with clinical service of up to 13 hours per week: The assistant professor position is a fixed-term appointment, according to Chapter 4, Section 12a of the Higher Education Ordinance, for six years at full-time. The position at Umeå University is combined with clinical service at Region Västerbotten in the applicant's primary profession, involving clinical duties amounting to up to 13 hours per week. The assistant professor has the right to be considered for promotion to associate professor combined with employment in their clinical profession.
