Job Responsibilities The position is aimed at early-career researchers, and the purpose of the appointment is to give an Assistant Professor the opportunity to develop their independence as a researcher and qualify both scientifically and pedagogically within their subject area in order to meet the requirements for a professor position. The position as Assistant Professor is primarily, at least 80 percent, focused on scientific qualifications. The remaining time should be primarily focused on pedagogical qualifications. Teaching may partially be conducted using internet-based methods at a distance. Teaching is conducted in Swedish and English. Administrative tasks may be included. The duty station is Umeå, but work at other locations may occur. Eligibility Requirements To be eligible for employment as an Assistant Professor, you must have completed a doctoral degree or have equivalent scientific competence. Description of Evaluation Criteria When assessing scientific competence, particular weight will be given to originality, independence, and potential to develop an independent successful research line within your subject area. Postdoctoral research conducted outside the university where you completed your doctorate is highly meriting. When assessing pedagogical competence, consideration will be given to planning, implementation, and evaluation of teaching, as well as supervision and examination. Administrative competence can be demonstrated through experience in undergraduate education planning, skill in developing and leading others, and administrative skills, etc. For this position, it is particularly meriting if the applicant has had their main employment outside Sweden during the three years prior to application. More About the Position The position as Assistant Professor is a fixed-term appointment in accordance with Section 4 Chapter 12a of the Higher Education Ordinance for six years on a full-time basis with the right to be considered for promotion to professor. Aesthetic subjects in this context refer to visual art, music, and craft. Job Description The position includes research, teaching at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels. The professor is expected to initiate new research, apply for external research funding, and work to develop the department's research environment and doctoral education. This includes developing well-functioning research collaborations with internal and external colleagues within aesthetic subjects and providing support for junior researchers at the department. Supervision, collaboration, and administrative work, as well as personnel, subject, and planning meetings are also part of the position. During the first three years of employment, 50% of the position is dedicated to research. Part of the research time is financed by the Teacher Education School, and the hired person is expected to conduct research relevant to teacher education and school instruction in aesthetic subjects. After the first three years of employment, 30% is dedicated to faculty-financed research time.
