Subject Description The subject of employment is molecular ecology with a focus on population genetics. Research focuses on ungulates and carnivores in boreal forest ecosystems. Job Responsibilities The Assistant Professor shall develop an independent research profile within the subject area. The department will provide opportunities for the position holder to qualify for promotion to Associate Professor and Professor within the subject of employment. Research is expected to be conducted in close collaboration with researchers within the department and elsewhere at SLU, as well as through national and international collaboration. Additionally, the position holder shall: · work in accordance with SLU's vision, goals, and values · initiate the establishment of an independent research group within the subject area · seek external funding competitively and publish scientific articles · participate in graduate education as a co-supervisor · conduct research-based teaching at all levels of the education cycle · continue pedagogical professional development and are expected to meet the requirements for promotion to Professor at the end of the probationary appointment · collaborate and communicate with relevant stakeholders in the surrounding community Qualifications To be eligible for employment as an Assistant Professor, an applicant must hold a doctoral degree or have equivalent scientific competence. Primarily, candidates who obtained this qualification within the last seven years before the application deadline should be considered. However, candidates who obtained a doctoral degree or equivalent competence earlier may also be considered if there are special grounds. Special grounds include leave due to illness, parental leave, or other similar circumstances. The Assistant Professor must hold a doctoral degree in a subject relevant to the position or have equivalent scientific competence. Excellent ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, is required. Documented ability equivalent to SeQF Level 4 to communicate in Swedish, both orally and in writing, is required. Evaluation Criteria The degree of competence required for eligibility for employment shall be the primary evaluation criterion. When considering applications for the position of Assistant Professor, particular weight shall be given to qualitative indicators of the applicant's scientific competence within the subject of employment. Furthermore, the applicant's ability to develop an independent research line within the current research area and to meet the requirements for promotion to Professor during the probationary appointment will be assessed. Additional considerations include: · ability to manage and analyze large and complex datasets · competence in integrating genetic, demographic, and behavioral data to understand evolutionary and ecological processes in vertebrate model systems · experience developing statistical and genetic tools for basic research questions, theory development, and hypothesis testing · experience collaborating with the public and regulatory agencies The position will be offered to the candidate who, following a comprehensive qualitative assessment, is deemed to have the best qualifications to carry out and develop the current work tasks and contribute to positive development of the activities.
