Probation Inspectors for Probation Services in Stockholm Region

About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now seeking additional staff members. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the cycle of crime. When we succeed, society becomes safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation services, remand facilities, and client transport. The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is a government agency that, together with police, prosecutors, and courts, is responsible for reducing crime and increasing public safety. The majority of those sentenced to criminal justice penalties serve their sentences in the probation service. Probation is criminal justice supervision that takes place in the community, where a probation sentence involves both monitoring and support for those convicted. The probation service is growing, we are receiving new and more extensive assignments, and we are now seeking new staff members to fulfill various roles in our societal mission. The probation service operates according to the Swedish Prison and Probation Service vision: Better Out. Job Description As a probation inspector in the supervision team, you work to support clients in living a life free from crime. An important part of the work is conducting regular meetings with clients and using methods based on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). You are responsible for ensuring that clients comply with their sentence and for planning, coordinating, and following up on measures in the execution plan. The plan describes what actions should be taken to reduce the risk of recidivism. The work involves both monitoring and support. You work with clients who are conditionally released from prison or sentenced to protective supervision with monitoring. You also motivate clients to participate in treatment and other crime prevention measures. In this role, you plan, conduct, and document meetings with clients. The work therefore requires that you can work independently, in a structured manner, and in accordance with applicable legislation. You also need to be comfortable with client-facing work that involves many conversations and long-term client relationships. An important part of the assignment is also to provide advice and support in contacts with other authorities and care providers. You collaborate with social services, substance abuse treatment services, the Swedish Public Employment Service, the Police Authority, courts, and non-profit organizations. As a probation inspector, you are also part of the office's security organization and contribute to the operation's security work. Qualifications We are looking for someone who is good at collaborating with others and who can remain calm even in demanding situations. It is a merit if you have several years of experience in social work, treatment or investigation work, government operations, or security work. You work in a structured manner and are comfortable following laws, regulations, and procedures. You are also comfortable with client-facing work that involves many conversations and using methods based on research and proven experience to prevent recidivism. As a probation inspector, you need to have good judgment, be able to explain and guide others, and take responsibility for driving your work forward independently. You work thoroughly and goal-oriented and can make well-reasoned assessments. You act professionally and with high integrity. To thrive and succeed in the role, it is important that you share our values regarding the equal worth of all people, respect for the individual, and belief in people's willingness and ability to change and develop. You have an understanding that people's backgrounds, cultures, and experiences affect both themselves and their surroundings. Through your conduct, you contribute to ensuring that everyone is treated equally. We place great emphasis on personal suitability. We are looking for someone who has: An academic degree, at minimum bachelor's level in social science, preferably in behavioral science, criminology, law, or social work Good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written It is also a merit to have: Work experience in criminal justice, client-facing work, law, social care, psychiatry, or health and care work. Internships and volunteer work are not equivalent to employment Experience working in probation services or other case-handling client-facing roles within the criminal justice system Experience with CBT methods, motivational interviewing (MI), and execution planning (VSP) Experience with investigation work with a focus on risk and needs assessments Experience with government operations and case management Experience in security work Current experience with in-person client meetings Other Information The Swedish Prison and Probation Service has chosen to remove the cover letter and replaced it with selection questions that are relevant to the position. Your answers to the selection questions and your CV will form the basis for determining whether you are qualified to proceed in the process. To be considered for employment with the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, you must meet high standards regarding suitability, judgment, security and confidentiality awareness, and compliance with applicable laws. This means that you stand up for democratic values and the government values that apply to the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's operations. Certain positions are classified as security positions, and a security clearance with a criminal record check will be conducted before an employment decision is made. For certain security-classified positions, Swedish citizenship is required. The Swedish Prison and Probation Service welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
