The center is to strengthen and develop preventive work against violent extremism at the national, regional and local level. This is to be done, among other things, by being a knowledge hub, providing tailored support to local actors and contributing to creating a higher degree of efficiency and coordination in preventive efforts. The center is placed within the Crime Prevention Council and cooperates with authorities, municipalities, civil society and other relevant actors. Since March 1, 2025, the center has a mandate aimed at preventing public funds from reaching violent and antidemocratic environments. This is done by being a contact point for authorities and others who distribute public funds or otherwise review publicly funded activities. As part of the contact point function, CVE assists with in-depth reviews of activities that may be assumed to have connections to violent extremism or other antidemocratic environments.
