Responsibilities Oxygenated organic radicals are important drivers of chemistry in many systems, such as metabolism in living organisms, polymerization, combustion systems, and the natural environment (Earth's atmosphere). However, few techniques can detect them today. We are seeking a motivated researcher to develop and apply a mass spectrometric technique (proton transfer mass spectrometry, PTr-MS) for detection of individual oxygenated organic radicals in air, within the prestigious European Research Council (ERC) Advanced project EPHEMERAL. The work will encompass characterization and optimization of a state-of-the-art Time-of-flight mass spectrometer (PTr-MS) and use of other instruments to detect these radicals in laboratory and in air. This position will be within the Nozière group at the Department of Chemistry at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm. Qualifications Requirements Completed doctoral degree or foreign degree in chemistry, physics, or appropriate field deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree. Responsibilities Oxygenated organic radicals are important drivers of chemistry in many systems, such as metabolism in living organisms, polymerization, combustion systems, and the natural environment (Earth's atmosphere). However, few techniques can detect them today, particularly in complex systems. We are seeking a motivated candidate to develop and apply global detection techniques for oxygenated radicals in ambient air and other complex systems. The work will involve both operation and troubleshooting of existing techniques, such as chemical amplification, and development and characterization of entirely new techniques, to be used both in laboratories and in ambient air. This position will be within the Nozière group at the Department of Chemistry at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. Qualifications Requirements Completed PhD or foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a PhD in chemistry, physics, or related field. This qualification requirement must be met by the time the employment decision is made. Experimental experience with gas flow systems.
