Controller with Accounting Specialization

The municipality is a politically governed organization where the municipal executive board directs, leads, coordinates, and oversees the municipality's operations and finances. Umeå municipal group encompasses the municipality and its wholly-owned and partially-owned subsidiaries. Umeå municipality is organized into a municipal executive board, 14 committees, and 9 departments. The municipality owns through its holding company (Umeå kommunföretag, UKF) a total of 31 companies, of which nine are wholly-owned and six are partially-owned with subsidiary enterprises. The largest companies are the housing company AB Bostaden i Umeå, the energy company Umeå Energi AB, and Umeå Vatten och Avfall AB. At the turn of the year 2025/2026, Umeå municipal group had a balance sheet total of approximately 31 billion SEK (mdkr) and the municipal group's revenues including tax revenues, general government grants, and equalization amounted to approximately 15 mdkr. The municipality had 135,273 residents and the municipal group employed 13,407 employees. The accounting unit is part of the Finance and Governance department within the Office of the City Manager, which is the municipal executive board's administration. Staff within the accounting unit work with municipality-wide processes for accounting and reporting. This includes preparing the municipality's interim report and annual report, including the municipal group's consolidated financial statements. Much of the work takes place in close collaboration with the budget unit. Within the Finance and Governance department, there are also units for coordination and governance, finance, and procurement and purchasing. The department comprises approximately 50 employees led by a director of finance and five process managers. Our task is to support the municipal leadership (including the municipal executive board and municipal council) with relevant and adequate decision-making materials within the financial area. The task is also to provide, develop, and manage structures, systems, and processes for financial processes. As a payroll administrator with us, you are a consultative support to our managers and employees. You are responsible for handling payroll from start to finish, which means you work with the entire payroll process.
