Controller with Accounting Specialization

The municipality is a politically governed organization where the municipal executive board directs, leads, coordinates, and oversees the municipality's operations and finances. Umeå municipal group encompasses the municipality and its wholly-owned and partially-owned subsidiaries. Umeå municipality is organized into a municipal executive board, 14 committees, and 9 departments. The municipality owns through its holding company (Umeå kommunföretag, UKF) a total of 31 companies, of which nine are wholly-owned and six are partially-owned with subsidiary enterprises. The largest companies are the housing company AB Bostaden i Umeå, the energy company Umeå Energi AB, and Umeå Vatten och Avfall AB. At the turn of the year 2025/2026, Umeå municipal group had a balance sheet total of approximately 31 billion SEK (mdkr) and the municipal group's revenues including tax revenues, general government grants, and equalization amounted to approximately 15 mdkr. The municipality had 135,273 residents and the municipal group employed 13,407 employees. The accounting unit is part of the Finance and Governance department within the Office of the City Manager, which is the municipal executive board's administration. Staff within the accounting unit work with municipality-wide processes for accounting and reporting. This includes preparing the municipality's interim report and annual report, including the municipal group's consolidated financial statements. Much of the work takes place in close collaboration with the budget unit. Within the Finance and Governance department, there are also units for coordination and governance, finance, and procurement and purchasing. The department comprises approximately 50 employees led by a director of finance and five process managers. Our task is to support the municipal leadership (including the municipal executive board and municipal council) with relevant and adequate decision-making materials within the financial area. The task is also to provide, develop, and manage structures, systems, and processes for financial processes. We are now seeking a key player in our team who is a controller with accounting specialization. Are you the one we're looking for? Your responsibilities: In this role, you will work with standard tasks within municipality-wide accounting, financial management, and reporting, which may include: Accounting and reporting in simplified reports, interim reports, and annual reports. This includes, for example, reconciliations, year-end closing work, monitoring of personnel data and personnel-related items, as well as analyses and monitoring of financial information. Conducting investigations for the municipality and municipal group (within areas such as financial and ownership governance, internal control, and tax matters), investigation of accounting matters, questions, and information within the planning process, as well as structures and information. The role may also involve driving development in monitoring and reporting, accounting, ownership governance, and internal control in collaboration with others. Analyses and consequences of strategies/policies, ownership matters, and ownership governance within the financial area from a municipal group perspective may also be included, both in the short and long term. In this role, close collaboration, ongoing contacts, and dialogue with representatives from operations, companies, and external parties are an important part. About you We are looking for someone who is passionate about accounting matters. You have great personal drive and are motivated by developing accounting and reporting. You have several years of experience working in a larger organization/group with qualified financial work within accounting and consolidated accounting. You also have several years of experience with complex matters within finance and ownership governance, consolidated accounting, tax and VAT matters, year-end closing work, interim and annual reporting, as well as experience working with financial systems and consolidated accounting systems. You have good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. We are looking for someone with a degree in business administration or education that the employer considers equivalent.
