Postdoctoral Researcher (2 years) in Host-Pathogen Interactions
The Department of Molecular Biology is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to investigate how the obligate intracellular bacterial pathogen Chlamydia trachomatis establishes and maintains its intracellular niche and impacts host cell biology. This is a full-time position for two years with a start date of November 1, 2026, or by agreement. The application deadline is September 3, 2026. Project Description and Responsibilities Chlamydia trachomatis is a globally significant bacterial pathogen and a leading cause of urogenital and ocular infections. The pathogen's unique developmental cycle and obligate intracellular lifestyle enable sophisticated manipulation of host cell functions, but the underlying mechanisms remain incompletely characterized. This project focuses on understanding how the bacterium establishes and preserves its intracellular environment and how it drives disease processes through sustained impacts on host cell biology. By integrating omics-based technologies with molecular genetic, microscopic, and cell biological analyses, the project will generate new knowledge about host-pathogen interactions and create opportunities for future development of innovative treatment strategies. Responsibilities include: · Planning and conducting experiments · Data analysis and manuscript preparation · Presentation of results internally and externally · Collaboration with other researchers · Mentoring of junior colleagues in the research group Qualifications To be employed under a fixed-term postdoctoral appointment, you must hold a PhD or equivalent foreign degree in molecular biology, cell biology, infection biology, or a related field. This requirement must be fulfilled by the time the employment decision is made. For postdoctoral appointments, preference will be given to those who obtained their PhD within the last three years. Exceptions may be considered for compelling reasons, including illness, parental leave, service in union leadership roles, military service, or similar circumstances, as well as clinical work or relevant professional service relevant to the field. Applicants should have research experience in Chlamydia-host cell interactions, including practical experience with human cell cultures, conducting infection experiments with C. trachomatis in cell culture, genetic manipulation of C. trachomatis and human cell lines, and using molecular genetic, microscopic, and cell biological methods to analyze intracellular host-pathogen interactions. Applicants should also have some experience working with omics data. Prior experience with proximity labeling-based proteomics is advantageous. You should demonstrate a strong interest in scientific research and motivation to address complex research questions. We seek someone with clear commitment to high-quality research and the ability to independently plan, develop, and drive research projects. Excellent English language skills, both spoken and written, are required. You should have strong collaboration skills and be able to work effectively in a dynamic and interactive research environment, as well as contribute to mentoring and support of junior researchers. As a member of our team, you will contribute to fostering an inclusive culture and positive work environment. This means communicating effectively across differences, demonstrating willingness and ability to collaborate. You maintain openness and a welcoming attitude, showing respect, compassion, and empathy. You engage with and support colleagues from diverse backgrounds and perspectives, and promote healthy work-life balance for yourself and others. Application A complete application should include: · A personal statement describing your research background, interests, and motivation for applying for this position. · Curriculum vitae (CV) with a list of publications (including a brief description of your contribution to each publication). · Certified copy of your PhD certificate or documentation showing when your PhD is expected to be conferred. · Contact information (name, email address, and relationship to you) for two to three references.
