Employment Information Employment Type: Fixed-term position, 2 years Start Date: By agreement Full-time Number of Positions: 1 Deadline: 2026-09-03 Location: Västerås Department: Engineering Science Job Responsibilities A postdoctoral position aims to provide an opportunity to develop independence as a researcher following the completion of a doctoral degree and to create conditions for further career advancement. The position may be fixed-term for a maximum of 3 years. The primary responsibility for this position is to contribute to research projects focused on modeling, optimization, control, and AI applications for smart buildings. The work includes collaboration with international research and industry partners, publication of scientific articles, and responsibility for implementing and reporting project activities. The position may include teaching activities up to 20 percent of working time in energy engineering, building technology, or environmental engineering. Eligibility Requirements We are seeking a candidate who has completed a doctoral degree in energy engineering, building technology, mechanical engineering, or another relevant engineering field no more than three years before the application deadline. You have not previously held a postdoctoral position in the same or related field at MDU lasting more than one year. The applicant must demonstrate knowledge of and experience with: - Simulation software for building and district energy systems, both commercial and open-source; - Optimization of building energy consumption, both electrical and thermal; - Modeling, optimization, and/or control of either buildings or energy systems; - Programming in Python, MATLAB, or similar. This position also requires strong oral and written communication skills in English. Evaluation Criteria Special weight will be given to knowledge and experience with: - Work on international projects with academic and industry partners; - Electrification of the heating sector and the interaction between heating and electricity systems; - Modeling, optimization, analysis, and/or control of renewable technology and storage technology in buildings; - AI methods applied to building or energy systems; - District heating systems. In an overall assessment of suitability, personal qualities will also be considered.
